About City Hunter
City Hunter, also known as Shiti Hanta, is a Japanese manga series that was created by Tsukasa Hojo. It was published by Shueisha Publications and was serialized in Weekly Shonen Jump magazine. It was released on 26th February 1985, and till 19th November 1991, it gave out a collection of 35 tankobon volumes. To date, it has remained one of the most popular and legendary detective manga. Its popularity noticed a sudden hype after it got an anime adaption. City Hunter anime adaptation was released on 6th April 1987 and was produced by Sunrise Studio. It ran till 28th March 1988 and aired a total of 51 episodes.
Later, it got renewed in City Hunter 2 and broadcasted its 63 episodes starting from 2nd April 1988. Further, it got renewed in City Hunder 3 and City Hunter ’91. The series never died off as it kept on releasing new projects almost every year. A lot of anime films, a few spin-offs, including spin-off manga was also released.
Plot
The most important element of the whole City Hunter franchise is its plot. Its story has perfected made a blend of action and thriller while also keeping comedy with it. The plot takes us to the protagonist Ryo Saeba who is a private hunter who works to get rid of Tokyo of Crimes. However, he is disguised as a sweeper and is often seen chasing beautiful girls. He, along with his partner Hideyuki Makimura is running an underground detective business named “City Hunter”. Things get interesting after Hideyuki gets murdered and the responsibility of his sister comes upon Ryo.
In the process of getting along with each other, Kaori, who is a tomboy, ends up being Ryo’s partner in his business. You will always get to see Kaori hitting Ryo to keep his behavior at bay, as he is always seen doing something perverted. Their romantic interaction and cooperation were loved by every viewer.
City Hunter Series Gets New Anime Film
Many fans have predicted something about the City Hunter, but we’re not sure till now. On Friday, 8th March 2022, the official website of City Hunter have announced that a new film titled “City Hunder Private Eyes” from the franchise will be released. Since the 35th anniversary of the franchise is approaching, fans were already expecting something new, but after this confirmation, we can feel relaxed. The new film from the City Hunter franchise is announced as a celebration project for its 35th anniversary. A trailer for the film has already been released. It contains the same legendary picturization and character design. However, since it is a new film, you can feel the freshness from the trailer.
The film is still listed as “coming soon,” which means a particular date for the movie is not announced yet. Its trailer also featured the original anime ending song “Get Wild,” which actually made fans go wild. It was also confirmed that the voice actor Akira Kamiya would be playing Ryo Saeba once again.
