Trying Season 3 Episode 8 is the season finale, and it’s right around the corner. This comedy by Andy Wolton will tell us how the Judge will rule in favor or against Nikki and Jason to keep the kids. There’s a problem, however, and that’s the grandma factor, and if we add to the mix of Nikki and Jason’s financial problems, the outlook is not so good. Can this couple manage to get what they want, or are we in for a sorry season finale?

Trying Season 3 Episode 7 Recap
Karen and Nikki hurry towards a glitzy party while Jason and the in-laws follow closely behind. Scott is throwing a lavish party to celebrate the release of his first book, What a Banker, which he also happens to be paying for. Cardboard cutouts of the author dressed as your stereotypical Wall Street banker are installed throughout the pricey party. The group tries to blend in despite feeling entirely out of place at the event. Meanwhile, Nikki still avoids Jason and hasn’t forgiven him for all his expensive lies. Jason started a new job to help the family through these financial difficulties, but it wasn’t enough.
On the veranda, the couple converses. Jason apologizes for his wrongdoing and makes an effort to defend himself. He foolishly placed too much faith in Scott, the incompetent investment banker, because he wanted to offer solutions rather than problems. Jason tried to kiss and make up with Nikki, but she rejected him out of resentment that he made these decisions without consulting or knowing about them. It seems unlikely that a few magic words will be enough to end this argument.
Angry Hostess
The host of the party, Karen, is furious as well. She asks Scott about the book’s intended readership because she is unaware of the comedic elements in his writing. Karen can see through Scott’s lies despite his attempts to spin the situation in a positive light. She decides to intervene, gathers up all the food and beverages, and the family flees. The usual antics of the show are back, and they run off with as much merchandise as they can carry.
Tyler hears the foster parents arguing inside the home. It’s challenging, but they’re both doing their best to make things work. Jason’s friend Freddie is showering them with gifts, and to replace the wrench Tyler has grown quite attached to, Jason bought Tyler a silly little teddy bear. Tyler misunderstands Nikki’s statement that the teddy bear needs to be swapped because it is too small, thinking instead that they are discussing replacing him. In a state of panic, the boy goes upstairs to check his height.
Nikki Fires Jen
Despite having a lot on her plate already, Nikki still needs to fire Jen. She extends an invitation to a coworker for a girl’s night in and finds it difficult to bring up the subject. Ditsy Jen worries that her girlfriend might want to sleep with other people and claims she may be depressed. After missing her chance to announce it, Nikki drives her friend home instead.
Wake Up Call
Karen’s wake-up call inspires Scott to begin a new, more serious novel, but he cannot get past the opening sentence. As she offers to assist, Karen ends up penning the book herself. Another priceless moment passes as Scott admires his wife, who always stands by his side and supports him despite these setbacks.
Conclusion
Jason abandons Nikki and heads off to work to avoid having a serious conversation of his own. She has to call his specific taxi to end the conversation because the situation between the soul mates has become so desperate. Nikki and Jason converse openly while sitting in the front seat next to each other. While doing so, Jen gives the foster kids sugary treats and caffeine to excite them. Nikki discusses how the couple is breaking up while debating the veracity of Bev’s complaint. They might not be suitable to be parents after all. Without actually saying much, the couple resolves their differences and acknowledges that they are good parents. It appears that simply addressing the problem might have been sufficient.
On a roll, Nikki eventually confronts Jen in a similarly awkward conversation and fires her, telling her to take her own life more seriously and suggesting that she set higher goals. It’s a very intense conversation. Jen then reconciles with her girlfriend and, while dressing formally for the occasion, applies for a new job. Because of Jen’s poor parenting, Tyler’s pajamas shrink in the washer, and he rejoices because he thinks he’s grown enough that his foster parents won’t replace him. The following morning, Jason learns that the apartment has been sold and that the adoption announcement will take place in just one week.
