At a private GOP retreat in Palm Beach, Florida, Trump campaign officials disclosed a substantial fundraising achievement, revealing that $76 million was collected in April from both the campaign and the Republican National Committee.
The event gathered influential GOP donors and potential vice presidential candidates, including Senators Marco Rubio, Tim Scott, and J.D. Vance, along with other prominent figures like Rep. Elise Stefanik and Governors Doug Burgum and Kristi Noem.
Guests were transported to Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club for remarks by the former president, where he vigorously criticized the felony charges against him and disparaged prosecutors, labeling special counsel Jack Smith as “deranged” and an “evil thug.”
Trump expressed disbelief at his indictment, remarking, “Holy sh**,” and accused President Biden‘s administration of resembling a “Gestapo,” suggesting it’s their sole strategy for victory.
Responding to Trump’s remarks, White House spokesperson Andrew Bates condemned the rhetoric, emphasizing Biden’s commitment to democratic values and the rule of law.
The retreat also featured a panel with GOP Senate hopefuls Bernie Moreno, Rep. Jim Banks, and Dave McCormick.
Campaign officials and pollsters shared insights during a closed briefing, highlighting internal polling suggesting potential competitiveness in traditionally Democratic states like Minnesota and Virginia.
Despite these revelations, neither state is considered a battleground for the 2024 election, with Minnesota having favored Democratic candidates since 1972.
The fundraising disclosure comes as the Trump campaign seeks to narrow the financial gap with Democrats, who held a significant advantage in April.
While the numbers have yet to be independently verified, a top Trump advisor expressed satisfaction, stating that the fundraising surpassed expectations.
The retreat’s culinary offerings included upscale fare like baby greens salad, beef filet, scallops, and key lime pie, along with personalized dessert options featuring coconuts branded with “Trump 47” on Saturday night.
