Thomas Kingston, the spouse of Lady Gabriella Kingston, daughter of Prince and Princess Michael of Kent, has passed away, as confirmed by Buckingham Palace.
Lady Gabriella remembered her husband, a financier, on Tuesday, highlighting him as an “exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him.”
Expressing condolences, the King, Lady Gabriella’s second cousin, conveyed his deepest sympathies to her family following the unexpected demise.
Lady Gabriella holds the 56th position in the British throne’s line of succession, following her niece, Isabella Windsor.
A statement issued on behalf of Lady Gabriella, Mr. Martin, Mrs. Jill Kingston, Mrs. Joanna Connolly, and Mrs. Emma Murray read:
“It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the death of Thomas Kingston, our beloved husband, son, and brother.”
“Tom was an exceptional man who lit up the lives of all who knew him. His death has come as a great shock to the whole family and we ask you to respect our privacy as we mourn his passing.”
Reportedly, the financier’s passing is not linked to the Prince of Wales’ withdrawal from a memorial service on Tuesday for his godfather, King Constantine II. The service was attended by Lady Gabriella’s parents, Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
Thomas Kingston, aged 45, was discovered deceased at a residence in the Cotswolds on Sunday evening. Emergency services responded to the incident shortly after 6 pm.
An inquest will convene to determine the cause of death, although there are no suspicions of foul play, and no other individuals are believed to be involved.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said:
“The King and the Queen have been informed of Thomas’s death and join Prince and Princess Michael of Kent and all those who knew him in grieving a much-loved member of the family.
“In particular, their majesties send their most heartfelt thoughts and prayers to Gabriella and to all the Kingston family.”
Lady Gabriella shared a personal photo she captured of her late husband, depicting him smiling in a casual pink shirt near a water body in sunlight.
As Lady Gabriella’s father and Prince Charles’s father were brothers, she and King Charles are second cousins. Affectionately known as Ella, she was 18th in line to the throne at birth.
Lady Gabriella’s Marriage With Thomas Kingston
In 2019, Lady Gabriella tied the knot with financier Kingston in an intimate ceremony at St. George’s Chapel, Windsor Castle.
The ceremony was graced by senior members of the royal family, including Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Harry, with the late Duke of Edinburgh making a rare public appearance.
The couple’s engagement took place in the summer of 2018 during a trip to the Isle of Sark after years of dating.
Mr. Kingston served as a director at Devonport Capital, specializing in assisting companies in emerging economies or post-conflict zones with expansion finance and liquidity-bridging solutions.
He was a Bristol University graduate and had previously been involved in securing the release of hostages in Iraq through his work at the Foreign Office’s diplomatic missions unit.
Prior to his marriage to Lady Gabriella, Kingston had a relationship with Pippa Middleton, maintaining a close friendship afterward. Both Kingston and Lady Gabriella attended Middleton’s wedding to James Matthews in May 2017. Gloucestershire Constabulary stated they were alerted by the ambulance service regarding Kingston’s passing.
The force said:
“We were called by the ambulance service at 6.25pm on Sunday with a report of the death of a 45-year-old man at an address in the Cotswolds.”
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
