Cheese in the Trap is a manhwa written and illustrated by Soonkki. Its first chapter in Korean was released in 2010, and on June 30, 2014, the English translation was released. The Korean version came to an end in 2017, while the English translation came to an end on March 7, 2020. Cheese in the Trap tells us the tense yet romantic relationship between Hong Seol, who is a model student, and Yu Jung, who is the former’s “Mr. Perfect” senior, who isn’t really all that he seems to be. A manhwa that comes under the trope of “best friends to lovers” is “You have the Wrong Person” written and illustrated by Haruseki. This manhwa is a short one made up of 34 chapters. It tells us the story of two best friends, Song Yujin and Jung Doha, who have known each other all their lives… or at least that is what Yujin thought. This short story takes us on the journey of a friendship that soon blossoms into something more as Yujin begins to learn new things related to his best friend, Doha.

Another manhwa with a similar trope in the previous manhwa is “Something About Us”. Also known as “Our Relationship Is…”, this manhwa is written by Lee Yunji. This manhwa is a wholesome manhwa that is bound to leave its readers with fuzzy feelings. It introduces us to the story of Han Woojin and Doh Gahyong.
The two main characters have been friends since childhood, and it is only natural to care for and love each other. However, is this love platonic? They themselves do not know. As they begin to question their true feelings for each other, they are met with many complicated situations. The two characters, thus, try to find a conclusion for the meaning of their friendship as well as their growing feelings for each other.
A Good Day to be a Dog:
Although the story isn’t too similar to the story of Cheese in the Trap, the relationship shared between the main couple is somewhat similar to the aforementioned manhwa. The story of “A Good Day to be a Dog” is a fantasy romantic comedy written and illustrated by Lee Hey. We are introduced to the main character Hana, who has the secret family curse of turning into a dog after having her first kiss. However, to break the curse, she has to get kissed again by the same person. Unfortunately for her, breaking the curse will become the main conflict of her life as the guy she shared her first kiss with is extremely afraid of dogs.
Right Here Waiting:
In this manhwa, written and illustrated by Awen, we are introduced to two characters with unique names, Monty Blanc and Aurora Seasons. However, having unique names did not only make them stand out but also made them the center of many jokes as kids. Not only this but because of having a common issue with their names, they were often teased to be a couple. Years later, they both run into each other again as adults working in the same company. In this boss-employ relationship, will their shared past make them develop romantic feelings for each other? The answer to this question takes their story forward.
Cherry Boy, That Girl:
An interesting manhwa with many interesting characters is “Cherry Boy, That Girl”. This manhwa by South Ant touches on many high-school themes when it comes to relationships. Berry or Strawberry Shin has the upper hand in her school as she is not only very pretty but also one of the few female students at school. She has a boyfriend named Pear or Pierre Kang. However, her relationship isn’t as smooth-going because of Pear’s best friend, Wally or Walnut Kang, who hates her. Not only this, but her ex-boyfriend, Darin or Kim Mandarin also causes trouble as he doesn’t approve of her relationship with Pear.
Not only this, but Darin is even prettier than Berry, which makes Berry’s narcissistic personality boil with jealousy. Eventually, Darin decides to cross-dress as Cherry Kim, a transfer student, and seduce Pear to make the couple break up, a plan that seems to be working well. In this turmoil, we are let in on the reasons behind Wally’s “hate” for Berry.
Spirit Fingers:
This is a wholesome manhwa that was written and illustrated by Han Kyoung Chal. Although this manhwa has a good amount of romance, it also touches on themes related to self-discovery and finding one’s true colors without having to change the colors in one’s palette. It introduces us to Amy, who suffers from low self-esteem and doesn’t see herself as a pretty girl. Things change in Amy’s life when she comes across an Art Club named “Spirit Fingers”.
This art club consists of some of the weirdest yet coolest people who help Amy portray herself as she is but only more confidently. Being a part of the most welcoming club, she experiences many ups and downs on her journey to self-love. Eventually, she finds many friends as well as goes through a blossoming romance. Again, the story of this webtoon may not be very similar to Cheese in the Trap. However, they share good and strong female leads as well as some themes.
