Movies like Vivarium, which blur the line between reality and fantasy, are among our favorites. Despite its low IMDb rating, this film is a real treat for fans of science fiction cinema. It’s a sci-fi film that delves into some heavy topics, such as the absurdity of life and the distorted sense of value and success that most people have. The philosophical undertones the film deals with, the social commentary, and the experimental cinematography gives this movie an edge over most others in its genre.
Tom and Gemma are a young couple looking for a home when they are tricked by a real estate agent into a terrifying experience in a suburban neighborhood that is a labyrinth them back to the original home they visited. The Platform
The Platform is a psychological horror movie set in a prison with many floors and a platform that delivers food to each floor. However, the lower floors only receive the leftovers of the food that the higher tiers consume, forcing the main character to try and escape this vicious struggle for food.
It’s dark and gory, but it also makes a social commentary on how society works, with the wealthy being avaricious and the oppressed given the leftovers. Gaztelu-Urrutia uses science fiction to look at how society is dark and dystopian, similar to how Vivarium uses horror films to examine social class.
The infamous platform of the movieStepford Wives

The Stepford suburbs are named after the fictional town of Stepford. to discover the truth about Stepford’s wives, only to accidentally come across something horrifying in the process of doing so.
This movie, which is a lot like Vivarium, which is more concerned with issues relating to social class, can investigate ideals regarding the value of conformism and feminism without lowering the overall quality of the movie. This movie is a lot like Vivarium. The vivarium is more concerned with issues relating to social class. The film also addresses topics such as the struggle for female ambition against the constraints of society.
The Truman Show
Everything that happens in Truman Burbank’s life is part of a massive TV set, but he is unaware of this fact. Christof, the show’s executive producer, played by Ed Harris, is in charge of the live broadcast of “The Truman Show,” in which Truman’s every action is recorded by covert cameras. Cristof makes an effort to exert mental dominance over Truman, going so far as to oust Truman’s real love, Sylvia, from the show and cast Meryl in her place. However, as Truman gradually uncovers the truth, he is faced with the decision of whether or not to act upon it.
Like in Vivarium, it deals with the concept of free will and follows characters as they come to terms with and attempt to combat the uneasiness and artificiality of the world in which they find themselves.
Edward Scissorhands
Edward Scissorhands is the story of an artificial humanoid named Edward, who was created by a genius inventor who tragically passed away before he could finish building Edward. Edward, who is kind and well-intentioned but is rejected and treated unfairly because he looks like a monster with scissors for hands, fumbles his way through life, love, and social interaction. Edward’s downfall is that he is too passive and kind at heart and that society’s superficial beauty is an illusion.
Johnny Depp as Edward ScissorhandsThe movie does not fit the standard definition of a horror flick. Ideas like social conformity, the duality of human nature, and the fact that human society conceals its shadowy side are all echoed in the story’s societal implications.

Predestination
The final mission of a highly skilled time agent is to find the one criminal who has been able to elude him up until this point. The Pursuit leads to an examination of topics such as romantic destiny, personal history, and the moral boundaries of time travel that are original, surprising, and thought-provoking.
Is it possible that the end justifies the means? If a time traveler were to alter his history, would this mean that he never came into existence? There are some parallels between Vivarium and the ending reveal of the film’s mystery, as well as the unease that the viewer experiences throughout the film.
The Lobster

With a few notable exceptions, the view of human nature that is presented here is predominantly cynical and cold. Even more unsettling is the fact that it reflects our universal yearning to find commonality amongst strangers and the maternal love that women like the one in the vivarium feel for a non-human child.

Steven checking on Martin
Some of the characters in The Killing of a Sacred Deer say and do some strange things, and their reactions are equally out of the ordinary. The motivation behind the dialogue selections is primarily narrative-driven. Fate, the cosmic punishment of human hubris, and the eroding of our so-called free will are central themes in The Killing of a Sacred Deer.
Being John Malkovich

This visually arresting film explores the intricacy of relationships and the pain of loss. The ending is vague enough to allow the viewer to conclude the story, much like the ending of Vivarium. It’s open to any interpretation due to the ambiguity of the movie.
Contemplating their relationship
Midsommar
Dani, an American graduate student, turns to Christian, her self-centered and aloof boyfriend, in the face of their impending breakup, traumatized and still trying to come to terms with a terrible family tragedy. Dani is finally joyful for the first time in a long time. However, when Pelle begins to have an unsettling sense of unease, the strange traditions of the welcome society begin to mar the fairytale utopia in this warm and lush sanctuary of peace, harmony, and perpetual sunlight.
The film spirals into insanity with its sadistic undertones and graphic depictions of violence. If you like intense psychological dramas, nevertheless, you undoubtedly will enjoy this horror flick.

Quickly, Cassius is captivated by Steve Lift, a cocaine-snorting CEO who offers him a salary that is out of this world.
It has similarities in the way it tries to leave a social message while being lighthearted and philosophic in-depth, with themes like the search for meaning and the value of power and money at its core.
The Room
Young and in love, Kate and Matt move into a remote mansion, where they discover a secret room whose contents have the power to grant them any wish they wish. At any time, they can have any sum of money, any Van Gogh painting, and any article of clothing delivered to them. Eventually, she comes up with the brilliant idea of making a wish for the child they’ve been trying to conceive for a long time. There will be unintended consequences from this gift, despite their initial excitement.
Always think before you make a wish, as the adage goes. An allegory for the greed and stupidity of humanity, “The Room” serves as a metaphor for these traits. It also echoes the deep-seated frailty of morality in humans that was the central theme in the vivarium
The Void
At first, it appeared that tonight would be no different from any other, but then Deputy Danny Carter saw a man covered in blood crawling down the middle of the road. Carter rushes the injured man to the closest hospital, but as they arrive, members of a mysterious ancient cult in cloaks and masks surround the building, making escape impossible. Within this dangerous labyrinth of shadows, however, lurks a nightmare waiting only for the graveyard shift to end so that it can emerge into the light and terrorize the living.
It’s a great film to watch if you liked Vivarium, and it’s also a classic horror film with stunning visuals that add to the film’s eerie atmosphere.
Get out
Now that they’ve reached the “meet the parents” stage of their relationship, Chris and Rose have invited him to spend the weekend in the mountains with Rose’s parents, Missy and Dean. Chris makes a series of increasingly unsettling discoveries throughout the weekend that eventually lead him to a truth he could never have predicted. Chris initially sees the family’s accommodating behavior as an attempt to deal with their racial tendencies.
The tension and fear in Get Out don’t let up until the very end, making it a true psychological thriller. The film is groundbreaking in the horror genre because it doesn’t resort to cheap tricks like jump scares to create tension. It’s a horror film that hits every mark it needs to to be considered a great piece of cinema.
It Follows
It Follows is a straightforward horror film about a young woman who is being stalked by a supernatural being that will kill her in an instant if it ever lays a hand on her. This idea that there is some kind of threat lurking nearby that you might not even be aware of is much scarier than the film’s more conventionally terrifying moments, and the film can be read as a cautionary tale about the serious consequences that can result from seemingly harmless actions.
The Mist
David Drayton and his young son leave their Maine home after it is destroyed by a violent storm and travel into town in search of food and supplies. Shortly after that, a dense fog descends upon the town, sealing the Draytons and the other shoppers inside the supermarket. Terror grows as dangerous creatures appear outside, but the internal threat posed by a zealot who demands a sacrifice may be even greater.
The Mist is a memorable watch for sci-fi horror fans when paranoia sets in, a typical day takes a sinister turn, there are numerous unexplained supernatural occurrences, and the characters are attempting to escape an unexpected prison of sorts.
Donnie Darko
Donnie Darko, a teenage boy, sleepwalks out of his house one night and meets a giant, scary rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world will end in 28 days. Donnie comes home to find his bedroom has been destroyed by a jet engine. Is Donnie experiencing the end of the world firsthand, or is he just mentally ill?
Donnie Darko’s climax perfectly encapsulates the film’s bizarre and surreal tone. It’s a challenging movie with a puzzling conclusion that simultaneously leaves the viewer satisfied and perplexed. With parallel universes and tangled timelines, Donnie Darko appeals to the vivarium’s science-fiction elements more so than its unsettling horror elements. Despite being incredibly complicated, the movie is entertaining and a memorable watch.
Melancholia
Justine, who has been severely depressed up until that point, suddenly pulls herself together and becomes calm and stoic in the face of impending doom as the other characters despair and lament. Instead of recognizing Justine’s unexpected ability to overcome her depression as an acknowledgment of herself and perfect acceptance, people perceive it as a sign of “sympathy.”
This is a beautiful meditation on depression. Its strength comes from its refusal to minimize the agony, which is something that those suffering from mental illness are frequently urged to do. Making the suffering so severe that it figuratively heralds the end of the world has a certain defiant quality. High-concept science fiction is flawlessly blended with realistically developed characters and relationships.
Splice
The alien baby the couple must care for is a key cause of conflict in “Vivarium.”Although he wants to kill it, she chooses to treat it with compassion. This unsettling dynamic between a parent and child is reflected in the horror film Splice. To create a new species, a human-animal hybrid, two youthful genetic engineers splice together human and animal DNA. Yet again, she shows compassion by allowing their creature to live despite his plans to murder it before it reaches adulthood and the dreadful outcomes that would entail.
This film takes a darkly satirical look at medical morality and interpersonal relationships.
Circle
Fifty people awaken in an enormous cave they have never seen before, and they have no idea how they got there. The strangers may have thought the attacks were random at first, but they soon realized they could vote on who would be killed next. That’s mob mentality, at best.
The Ending Of CirclePeople and their stories are at the center of the film “Circle.” the nature of relationships and how people react to time constraints while making choices, Like vivarium, demonstrates that people would go to any length to ensure their survival, that morality is a very flimsy construct that ethics/morality is a very flimsy construct and that people will always be ready to sacrifice anyone to save themselves.
Coherence
On the night when a mysterious and strong comet flew overhead, four couples enjoyed dinner together. When strange things begin to happen to them, the couples fear the residents of a strange house down the street are purposefully aiming to guarantee they do not survive the night. This evening is filled with surprising self-discoveries that compel a rethinking of one’s entire worldview.
In “Coherence,” the protagonists’ identities, not only their physical well-being, are jeopardized; like in a vivarium, they urgently try to flee their confinement but are unable to do so. The captivating choices in Coherence and the frightening climax will keep you thinking about the story long after you’ve completed it.
Rosemary’s Baby
Mia Farrow plays a young woman who becomes suspicious of everyone and everything in her life after she becomes pregnant shortly after being married and moving into a gothic apartment complex with her new husband.
Mia farrow is afraid in her apartmentEven though she has been in excruciating agony and has lost a significant amount of weight, her husband doesn’t seem to be concerned about the eerie past of the building or the residents’ mysterious secrets. The film’s famous conclusion occurs when Rosemary finally discovers the truth about her child and must make a choice. The suspenseful “Rosemary’s Baby” is widely cited as an inspiration for subsequent works in the subgenre of psychological horror movies.
