Toby Fox has announced another update for Deltarune, with version 0.0.0.253 set to arrive on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 after platform certification.

While the patch introduces several gameplay improvements and bug fixes, Fox also confirmed that it is expected to be the last planned update for the current release, with development now turning toward Chapter 6.

New boss difficulty option headlines the update

The biggest gameplay addition in version 0.0.0.253 affects one of Chapter 5’s Shadow Crystal bosses. After losing the battle, players will now find a Pink Bomb outside the arena that allows them to choose between “Nicer” and “Meaner” difficulty settings.

Selecting “Nicer” adds visual indicators showing where bomb explosions will land and slightly delays their detonation, making attacks easier to avoid. On the other hand, “Meaner” increases the boss’s attack damage by 25%, speeds up certain attack patterns, and offers a more demanding challenge for experienced players.

The update also adds a new animation for Malius while fusing items, improving one of the game’s crafting interactions.

Beyond the new difficulty option, the patch focuses heavily on stability and gameplay improvements. Multiple softlocks, crashes, and progression issues have been resolved across Chapters 2, 3, 4, and 5.

Among the fixes are restored item replenishment after the Queen battle, corrections to character status issues, adjustments to Susie’s healing progression, and numerous fixes for crashes and unintended sequence breaks introduced by previous updates. Chapter 5 also receives several gameplay corrections, including fixes for dialogue, inventory behavior, and visual glitches.

According to Toby Fox, this is expected to be the final update for the current version of Deltarune unless additional critical issues are discovered. The development team will now concentrate its efforts on completing Chapter 6, which remains one of the most anticipated future additions to the RPG.
