Tina Knowles is not holding back when it comes to defending her daughter, Beyoncé, against criticism of the singer’s recent Christmas halftime performance. The 70-year-old mother took to social media on December 27 to stand up for Beyoncé, who faced some harsh feedback after her show during the NFL Christmas game.
Tina shared a fan’s post on Instagram that praised Beyoncé’s performance as “flawless,” stating that people should not be so quick to criticize such immense talent. The fan’s message pointed out that, regardless of personal taste, negative comments are often inevitable when someone is as talented and successful as Beyoncé.
Agreeing with the fan’s point, Tina expressed her disbelief at the criticism. She called out those who seem to take time out of their holidays to watch and critique a performance they claim to dislike. “It’s mind-boggling to me that you would take your precious Christmas day and watch a performance of someone you hate,” Tina wrote, highlighting how some critics seem to be obsessed with Beyoncé despite their negative comments.
In her post, Tina continued with a pointed message to the haters, urging them to watch something they can relate to, like cartoons or older shows. She added, “Said with love ❤️❤️,” and closed with an empowering quote from Beyoncé’s own lyrics, “No weapon formed against me shall prosper,” along with a playful nod to the upcoming trolls who might flood her comments.
Several celebrities, including Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer, showed their support with fire emojis, while others like Uzo Aduba echoed words of wisdom, advising to ignore the critics. Loni Love also weighed in, applauding Beyoncé’s incredible performance, which included everything from dancing with a marching band to soaring through the sky. She added that the haters could never pull off something like that, praising Beyoncé for doing it all in just 13 minutes.
Other stars like Kandi Burruss and Gizelle Bryant echoed their admiration for the performance, dismissing the criticism entirely. Even Shea Couleé, known for her time on RuPaul’s Drag Race, praised Tina’s bold response, calling her comments about watching “Goofy or Bozo” hilarious and fitting for the haters.
Despite some negative attention, Beyoncé’s NFL Christmas performance was a massive success, attracting 27 million viewers on Netflix. This viewership even surpassed the two NFL games that aired on the same day. The opening game between the Kansas City Chiefs and Pittsburgh Steelers brought in 24.1 million viewers, while 24.3 million tuned in for the Baltimore Ravens vs. Houston Texans matchup, proving that Beyoncé’s performance was a showstopper in its own right.
