In the world of cinema, there exists a singularly imaginative maestro, a director whose name alone conjures up the display of exceptional. This is none other than Tim Burton himself. This wild shock of hair has taken us on unimaginable journeys through dreamland and nightmares alike. Recently, Burton opened up and shared his thoughts on the use of AI in the cinematic industry.
Tim Burton is not happy with the way artificial intelligence (AI) is being used to copy his unique style. He thinks it is like a robot taking away your humanity and soul. Tim Burton, the great director who is known for movies like “Edward Scissorhands,” “Corpse Bride” and “Beetlejuice,” expressed these feelings in an interview with the British newspaper The Independent.
Tim Burton comments on the Buzzfeed article
He was talking about an article from Buzzfeed that used artificial intelligence to imagine what Disney characters would look like if they were in one of his movies. Burton could not find words to describe the sensation he experienced, likening it to a belief in some cultures where having your pictures taken is thought to steal a part of your soul.
He acknowledged that while some of the AI-generated images of characters from films like “Frozen,” “The Lion King,” “Sleeping Beauty,” and “The Little Mermaid” were impressive, he emphasized that this process essentially drains something from a person.
“It takes something from your would and psyche,” which is quite unsettling, particularly when it is related to you. It is as if a machine is robbing you of your humanity and essence, Burton explained.

Exceeding the use of AI is a pressing issue.
When it comes to using AI-generated content in media and entertainment, people are going the whole hog. This is the current pressing issue among writers and actors. Several cases have come up where AI is being used to do the script writing or generate the actor’s voice and images.
The possible outcomes of using AI are one of the main reasons why actors and writers are on strike in Hollywood, which has stopped the making of movies and TV shows.
The actors union, SAG-AFTRA, with around 160,000 members, has been on strike since July. They are worried that AI might reduce the number of actors who can find work in the future. As experts explained to CNN in July, the quick advancement in technology is also making it difficult for them to reach agreements with the studios.
Writers are also worried about how AI might affect their work. Screenwriter John August explained to CNN that the request to control AI was one of the final additions to the union’s list of demands.
However, it is evident that writers are concerned about this issue and should deal with it now instead of waiting until their contract is up again in three years. He believes it might be too late to address the problems effectively by then. Burton was almost finished making “Beetlejuice 2”, the follow-up to his beloved cult movie, when the actor’s strike halted the production, he shared with The Independent.
