The latest —and fifth— spin-off of the Walking Dead Universe, Daryl Dixon, just made its way onto the small screens last week, and with it comes a tale that picks up on the events of Daryl after the conclusion of the hit AMC serial. In this spin-off, we follow Daryl Dixon as he somehow makes his way to France.
While in France, Daryl keeps his old ways of bike riding, crossbow skills, and cunning adventures on a mission to learn a few things about the plague and find a way out of France and back into the Commonwealth, but that is easier said than done because he must deal with a few hurdles. Setting apart some plot lines that aren’t relevant for the moment, we will focus instead on the filming locations for The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon.
The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon Filming Locations
The bulk of this series was filmed on location in France, with special detail on Paris, and other regions like Normandy, Occitanie, and Arles. The filming began in October 2022 and lasted for a few months across 2023.
Arles
The scenes we see with Daryl in a convent with Isabelle and her group of nuns take place at the Abbaye de Montmajour located in Route de Fontvielle in Arles. That’s where Daryl ends up and is given safe haven from the zombies that chased him and surrounded the place.
The Abbey was built between the 10th and 10th centuries. It is located in the South of France; it was dedicated to Saint Peter and features a gothic and neoclassical style. The scenes we see in The Walking Dead by Daryl Dixon take place across several sections of this site, lie the Cloister, the Maurist Monastery, the hermitage, and the Chapel of the Holy Cross.
Occitanie
The scenes where we see Daryl walking down an ancient bridge, that’s the ancient aqueduct located in Pont du Gard in the Occitanie region. That aqueduct was constructed in the 1st century to supply water to Nimes. It is a Unesco World Heritage Site. Developed by Roman architects and engineers, it is almost fifty meters tall and has three levels; it is a masterpiece of Roman engineering.

Normandy
Located in the northern part of France, the cast and crew shot some scenes at the iconic tidal island of Mont-Saint-Michel, which is also known as the “Island of Wonders.” The island is famous for its beautiful Abbey and fortress, built in honor of the Archangel Michael.
It has been a pilgrimage site since the 8th century and remains an iconic symbol of France. The Abbey, located at the top of the island, was built in the 11th century. Fun fact: Mont Saint Michel was the inspiration for Peter Jackson’s The Lord of The Rings: The Return of The King’s Minas Tirith, capital of Gondor.
Paris
No trip to France is complete without visiting the City of Lights, Paris. The capital and home to so many historic characters and events like the French Revolution, which molded society into what we know of it today. In The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, we see how Paris was devastated, including a shot of the Eiffel Tower being torn in half and nearly destroyed.
Daryl traverses the capital across its many districts —or arrondissements— and sets up temporary refuges from the zombies, sets up traps, and connects with potential allies. Across the show, we see some devasted iconic Parisian landmarks, like the Musee du Louvre, and the Pantheon Square, as well as the famous Catacombs of Paris and many shots of the river Seine.
Those are the filming locations for this latest installment of the wildly popular The Walking Dead franchise that chronicles the adventures of Daryl Dixon in the Old Continent. If you ever visit France, be sure to take sightseeing in Paris or Mont-Saint-Michel, as this country is a tourist hub, and there are many places to eat, look and enjoy.
