Tonight on “The Voice,” coaches Chance the Rapper, Dan + Shay, John Legend, and Reba McEntire are helping their singers prepare for the Knockout rounds.
Each coach has a chance to steal one singer and use a “Playoff Pass” to send someone straight to the playoffs. The show started on February 26 at 8 p.m. PT/ET and has five main parts: Blind Auditions, Battle Rounds, Knockouts, Playoffs, and Live Performance Shows.
In Episode 8, we saw more Battle Rounds. William Alexander lost against Team Reba’s Zeya Raye and was sent home. Maddi Jane won against Nadège for Team Chance, but Chance decided to use his Playoff Pass to send Nadège directly to the next round.
Dan and Shay’s singer Frank Garcia beat Justin and Jeremy Garcia, but Reba used her steal to get the Garcia brothers on her team. Team Legend didn’t compete in this episode.
Recap
Tonight on “The Voice,” Donny Van Slee and Josh Sanders from Team Reba sang “When It Rains, It Pours.” Reba coached them to make the song more powerful and to maintain eye contact with the audience.
After their performance, Chance favored Donny, but he was impressed by Josh’s vocal runs. Dan thought they both shone individually, while Shay liked Donny’s “broken” voice.
John praised Donny’s fun performance but noted that Josh executed better. Then, Ronnie Wilson and Gene Taylor from Team Legend sang “When I Was Your Man.” John wanted Gene to focus more on capturing the song’s feeling.
Reba praised Gene’s “warm and wonderful tones” and Ronnie’s high note-hitting abilities after their performance. Chance encouraged John to choose Gene so that Chance would have a chance to take him in the following round since Chance could tell from Gene’s performance that he was raised in a theatrical family.
Gene had a “perfect vibrato,” according to Dan, but Ronnie was “neck and neck” with the high notes he nailed. Shay would give Gene the benefit of the doubt, while Dan thought Ronnie was better.
Ronnie’s “style and approach to music” and Gene’s “richness, range, and precision” were what ultimately led John to make his choice. In the end, he granted Chance his wish and handed Gene the victory.
