The Vermilion Mask anime has revealed a major batch of new details ahead of its October premiere on Crunchyroll. Yomiuri Telecasting Corp. has released the series’ second main promotional video, a new key visual, the opening and ending theme songs, and six additional cast members who will expand the anime’s growing lineup of characters.
Based on the manga by Nabana Naba and original creator Dr. Poro, The Vermilion Mask follows Peru d’Arrest, an apprentice to the legendary mask maker Gaston Roux. After a devastating tragedy caused by the Mask of the Warrior God, Peru becomes determined to destroy every mask his master created. His journey combines supernatural battles with a story about guilt, responsibility, friendship, and the struggle to overcome a past that cannot be erased.
The newly released promotional material offers a closer look at the enemies Peru will encounter while also introducing several characters whose connections to the masks could dramatically shape his journey. With its October debut approaching, the anime is positioning itself as a dark fantasy centered on the dangerous power hidden behind seemingly ordinary masks.
The Vermilion Mask Second Main PV Sets Up Peru’s October Battle
The second main PV begins with the “night of tragedy,” the event that fundamentally changed Peru’s life. The young mask maker’s apprentice is shown confronting the consequences of his past while battling enemies across city rooftops. His supernatural abilities are also highlighted as he switches between different masks, including spider, chameleon, and cat masks, while facing increasingly formidable opponents.
Peru’s central motivation remains tied to the tragedy involving his master and friends. After being controlled by the Mask of the Warrior God, he unintentionally killed the people closest to him, leaving him determined to prevent another disaster caused by Gaston’s creations. In the trailer, Peru declares,
“I’m the worst type of villain there is. To prevent tragedy from ever happening again, I’ll destroy all of my master’s masks.”
The new PV is accompanied by two songs that establish different sides of the series’ atmosphere. MAN WITH A MISSION performs the opening theme “Firestarter,” while yutori provides the ending theme “Koe.” Both songs feature in the newly released promotional video, giving viewers an early taste of how the music will complement Peru’s increasingly dangerous journey.
Kamikaze Boy of MAN WITH A MISSION explained that “Firestarter” was created as a powerful song intended to push forward the adventures of the young characters facing their cruel fate. He added that the band hopes the song will “fire up the hearts” of viewers following Peru and the others as they grow throughout the story.
For the ending theme, yutori approached “Koe” from a more emotional perspective. The group explained that the song explores the idea that the past cannot simply be erased, but people can continue carrying it while attempting to move forward. That concept directly connects with the feelings Peru struggles to express as he confronts the consequences of his actions.
New Key Visual Highlights Peru’s Allies and Dangerous Enemies
Alongside the PV, The Vermilion Mask has revealed a second key visual featuring Peru against a vivid vermilion backdrop. His face is covered with wounds as he looks forward, reflecting the physical and emotional challenges that await him.
Peru is joined by his companions Sonarue Maywood and Mok Sharib, while several major threats appear behind them. Among the enemies shown are Gouon and the Mask of the Warrior God, reinforcing the conflict between Peru’s desire for redemption and the forces connected to the masks.
The anime has also announced six additional characters and their voice actors. Kenji Nojima voices Hien, a member of Lisblanc’s Governance Guard who views Gouon almost like a father. After a particular incident changes his feelings, Hien develops hatred toward Peru and begins pursuing him.
Aoi Koga joins the cast as Lasgarl, a seemingly listless woman who loves books and carries a mask capable of commanding sound. Her personality changes completely when combat begins, allowing her to attack enemies with deadly sound-based slashes. She belongs to the same organization as Clown.
Yuki Shin voices Clown, an unsettling figure dressed in clown attire who works behind the scenes collecting masks. Despite his eerie appearance, Clown is cool-headed and intelligent, using his words and actions to manipulate both fate and the people around him.
Akihisa Wakayama takes on the role of Rinne, one of the most powerful enemies standing against Peru and his companions. Rinne shares the convictions of the Mask of Necromancy and can use its power freely. His goal is to kill humanity and ultimately bring people under his control.
Aya Endo voices the Mask of Necromancy, also known as Aries. The mask is considered one of the finest creations made by Gaston and possesses the terrifying ability to control the dead and raise them as “wraiths.” Its power places it alongside the Mask of the Warrior God as one of the most dangerous masks in the story.
The final new cast addition is Yui Horie as Master, an enigmatic character associated with the Mask of Dream. Her mask allows her to share dreams with people destined to become central to major events, allowing her to observe their journeys while wondering where their paths will ultimately lead.
