Previously in The Tragedy of a Villainess Chapter 36, we saw that Rouche was terribly ill. Seria gets medicines from Suzette that would help with his fever.

As Rouche was too warm, he was worried that the meds would dissolve at his touch, so he insisted Seria lend her hands. As Rouche takes his medicines, Seria is flustered. She reminds herself that he is just really very sick, and that is the reason for his childlike behavior.

They both are sick, worried about each other working really hard and not taking care of themselves, and burning out. Rouche then tells Seria that the way she has been overtaxing herself had Bastian in tears, to which Seria says that the changes to the garden will be made slowly from now on.

The work Seria has been working on for a long time now cannot begin until spring anyway because the ground freezes in winter. So in the meantime, everything will have to be cleared. She then lets Rouche know that there is a large hole in the middle of the garden.

Rouche then tells Seria that he sent envoys to Keliden requesting their approval of their marriage after the year-end festivities, but they have continually delayed making any reply. It’s clear that they do not wish to acknowledge their marriage.

If Callis had been a Duke instead of a Marquis, they would have found any number of excuses to delay granting him permission as well. Those people felt that marrying a Marquis was more than what Seria deserved. They would absolutely never admit that she has become an Archduke’s wife.
