The Shape of Water Plot:
The story centers around Elisa, who works as a janitor at a secret Government Laboratory near Maryland. She is a mute girl who has a routine life. Her only friend is a middle-aged Neighbor, Giles, who works as Advertising Illustrator. Apart from him, there’s Zelda, who’s her co-worker. Their routine life gets disturbed when her Senior Richard Strickland captures a strange creature from the river. This Mysterious Creature becomes a closer friend of Elisa as she starts meeting him in secret.
Meanwhile, General Frank Hoyt orders Richard to perform Experimental Surgery on the Creature. Although, Dr. Robert Hoffstetler opposes the order as he is a Russian Spy who has got the orders from his senior to Euthanize the creature. To save her friend, Elisa creates a plan the escape the creature. She gets support from Zelda, Giles, and Robert. All of them together generate a plan to release the creature from the Nearby canal when heavy rain occurs. Till then, she hides the creature in her Bathtub.
After losing the creature, Richard starts interrogating every member present at the workplace. The interrogation starts with Elisa and Zelda who don’t utter a word. While returning to the apartment, Elisa finds the creature on the stairs. She safely takes him back to her apartment and later discovers that the Creature was Devouring Giles Cat. After getting caught, he hurt the Giles Arms and tried running away. The Creature then heals Giles’s arm and his Baldhead. After this encounter, the Creature and Elisa grow closer to each other.
Richard is getting pressure from his seniors to capture the creature as early as possible. Richard starts following Robert as he is on his suspect’s list. He later finds him meeting his handlers who shot him. To protect Robert, Richard kills both the handlers and arrests, Robert. He gets tortured by Richard and later reveals his teammates who helped him escape the Creature. Furious Richard reaches Zelda’s house where her husband reveals that Elisa has the Creature.
After coming to Elisa’s empty apartment he finds a Calendar note in which the plan’s details get written. Meanwhile, Elisa and Giles are busy waving goodbye to the creature which gets interrupted by Richard. He knocks Giles and shoots both the creature and Elisa. After watching her lover fall. Furious Creature cuts Richard’s throat which kills him & Jumps into the Canal with Elisa. Where he heals her that allows her to breathe underwater. They both live together far away from the upper world.
