The Serpent Queen is a historical drama series that was released this year, 2022. After the show, the Regin people liked the character Catherine de Medici and her life story, which inspired the creators to shoot this series. This series was created by Justin Haythe and is based on the 2004 non-fiction book Catherine de Medici: Renaissance Queen of France by Leonie Frieda.
This show revolves around the life of Catherine de Medici, themed in 16th-century France. Considered an immigrant, common and simple, Caterina de ‘Medici married at the French court in the 16th century as an orphaned teenager who was supposed to bring a fortune as a dowry and produce many heirs, only to discover that her husband was in love with an elderly woman, her dowry is unpaid, and she cannot conceive.
But it is only with her intelligence and determination that she manages to keep her marriage alive and masters the blood sport that is the monarchy better than anyone who has ruled France for 30 years. Caterina de ‘Medici, despite all her life struggles, was able to deceive people according to her needs. She was believed to be the strongest lady to rule over France. Although Henry was the king of the people, Catherine was the one who ruled.

The Serpent Queen Episode 6: Summary
Samantha Morton played the role of Caterina de ‘Medici, is getting praised for her being an outstanding witty actress. She’s the Queen of France wife of the second son of King Francis of France, Henry. Naive, who just got married to King Henry, falls in love with him immediately and believes that he also feels the same for her. Soon her fairy world breaks into thousand pieces when she finds her husband with her distant cousin Diane de Poitiers.
After that, she promises herself never to trust again. This changes her completely, and now she only focuses on her political powers and how she can expand them to great lengths. Her intelligence proves to be the real score for both France and King Henry. She manages to ally with the powerful Sultan Suleiman. However, Henry gets the credit for the same.
Catherine receives a mysterious letter that states that Mary, the Queen of Scots, and her distant cousin Elizabeth I, Queen of England, are conspiring against her. She sends Rahima, her maid, to the bed chambers of Mary to prove her theory while she is distracting Mary. One of Mary’s court ladies caught Rahima going through Mary’s stuff.
Diane, who lost the trust of Henry, now conspires with Guises to marry her favorite niece Mary to marry Henry’s heir, Francis II, to gain power. Catherine is absolutely against this marriage because she senses this might prove fatal for her and her son.
Henry, who wants to get rid of Diane, agrees to the terms on the condition that Mary will succeed the throne of England from her cousin and France will become the direct ruler of England. Greed and power are the reasons for any kingdom’s downfall.
Mary, who needs protection for Scotland, also agrees with the marriage. Catherine tries to play her last card that Francis II is infertile, and according to the marriage contract, Mary needs to have an heir. Mary does not believe her and tells her that she and Francis II are meant to be. It’s what God desires.
This episode was titled ‘The Last Joust’ because Catherine dreams about Henry dying in the field of Joust, and she tries to convince Henry about the same. What makes this episode so special because even, in reality, the king died because of the wounds he got during the game of Joust and hence titled The Last Joust.
