The Secret Romantic Guesthouse is an adaptation of a novel by Kim Jung Hwa named Flower Scholar’s Love Story. It premiered on SBS on March 20, 2023, in the Monday-Tuesday drama time slot. Kim Jung Min is the director of this series. It features Shin Ye Eun, Ryeoun, Jung Gun Joo and Kang Hoon as the main characters. Shin Ye Eun is a popular name after the success of the Netflix series The Glory.
The story is about Yoon Dan Oh. She was the adored youngest daughter of a Noble family, but everything changed after the sudden death of her parents. She runs a guesthouse named Ihwawon Inn as the only way to support her family. Many young scholars visit Hanyang to stay and prepare for civil service exams, and it is a profitable business for guesthouse owners. Yoon Dan Oh, successfully got three attractive young men to dwell at her place.
Kim Shi Yeol, Jung Yoo Ha and Kang San are three young men living at Ihwawon Inn. They are not only staying for exam preparation but there are secrets behind their true identity. Through the journey of their motives, they become close with Dan Oh and support her in the problem together.
The Secret Romantic Guesthouse Episode 9: Recap
Previously in The Secret Romantic Guesthouse, Hwa Ryeong, the head courtesan, rescues Yoo Ha from the palace soldiers. Yoo Ha is shocked after learning that she was the lover of his birth father. All these years, she has kept the last will of his dead father and handed it over to him. On the other hand, Dan Oh finds a mysterious box outside her house. It is a dragon emblem which matches the compass she has with her from childhood.
Tae Hwa kidnapped Dan Oh for interrogation. Unfortunately, he finds the dragon emblem of Lee Seol, which was with Dan Oh. It is the half-compass that Lee Seol gave Dan Oh as a memento of their last encounter when they were kids. They would connect these compasses and recognise one another if they ever crossed paths again.
Tae Hwa continues to torture her. She confesses about hiding Lee Seol in her house in the past when soldiers were chasing him. She met Lee Seol for the first and only time when they were both children. Tae Hwa finally releases Dan Oh after Jung Yoo Ha pays her pending debt. He transfers ownership to her but keeps a tight check on her because she will assist Tae Hwa in capturing Watchman and Lee Seol.
It is the exam day for Kang San at the palace. San is injured but still gave his best. Through his performance, he acquires the attention of the King. Kang San passes the exam as the Top scorer, and the King grants him a wish. Kang San wishes to get a position to be close to the King.
Dan Oh finds the prophecy book of San with some doodles. She is shocked to see the drawings from her childhood when she met a boy in her doghouse ten years ago. San discloses his secret that he is Lee Seol.
