Then, who are these Guardian Beasts? Even though the word ‘Guardian’ is added to their names, they were opposed by everyone in the kingdom. The four heroes were summoned not only to protect everyone from the Waves but also the Guardian Beasts.
Why did people need protection from the Guardian Beasts when the Guardians are meant to protect? There’s a lot to know about the Guardian Beasts, yet we never seemed to observe facts like these. What Are The Guardian Beasts And Their Types?
The Isekai world of “The Rising of the Shield Hero” has one problem, that is the Waves. The four heroes were summoned to protect the people from the Waves. If Waves are the problem, then the Heroes are here to solve it. Then What are the Guardian Beasts? These are the legendary beasts that are supposed to protect the world from the waves. And these legendary beasts are of four types. The Spirit Tortoise, The Phoenix, Kirin, and The Dragon King. They have not been mentioned even once in Season 01 of The Rising of the Shield Hero. But, finally, they are making an entrance in Season 02, one at a time.
There are similar mystical beasts in Chinese and Japanese Folklore. And the Guardian Beasts used in this anime somehow relate to the respective folklores.

Why Do Guardian Beasts Exist?
These Legendary Beasts exist to protect their world from the waves. Heroes exist for the same reason too. But, these beasts are like the final defense against the waves, just in case the four heroes are not enough to protect everyone from the Waves. But, they have their own conditions. These beasts will protect against the waves but the people of this world have to pay the cost by sacrificing two-thirds of the life in the world. Well, not sounding so Guardian anymore. The after-effects of the Waves would have been the same as being “protected” by these beasts.
That’s why the four heroes were summoned to protect everyone from the Waves as well as the Beasts. The protection from the heroes comes with no cost, but the protection from the Spirit Beasts does. The number of lives taken by these beasts will be directly proportional to the length of time the world will be protected from the Waves. So, the heroes were summoned to either seal these beasts away or kill them.
Spirit Tortoise
The first Guardian Beast to make an entrance in Season 02 is the Spirit Tortoise. This Guardian Beast is believed to be so big that it can carry an entire nation on its back. The power of Spirit Tortoise is that it releases its cells that turn any living creature into its slave. Just imagine, this Guardian Beast can create an entire army of its own. It can also release attack beams that are capable of large-scale destruction.

Pheonix
The Twin Pair of flaming birds, the Phoenix is the second Guardian Beast haven’t made their entrance in the second season yet, but can’t wait to see them in action. One of the birds has magical powers, and the other one takes care of physical attacks. They can’t be defeated unless both of them are taken down. If one is defeated but the other bird is still alive, then the other one will get revived soon. Sounds like Heroes will face some hard time trying to take down this Guardian Beast.
Kirin
Kirin is the third Guardian Beast which supposedly looks like a mixture of tiger and dragon, and it actually is two creatures “Ki” and “Ren”, just like The Phoenix. As the historical records on the Guardian Beasts were destroyed, not many details about Kirin are available. But, a hybrid creature of tiger and dragon sounds like not going to be easy to defeat. The only thing known about this Guardian Beast is that it uses wind magic and can prevent teleporting.
Dragon King
The final Guardian Beast is the Dragon King. This beast is connected to the Dragon Emperor Fragments which were divided by the different Dragon Emperors. And these emperors have different summoning processes to summon the Dragon King.
