The Odyssey Dominates South Korea Box Office for Sixth Weekend as Obsession Climbs to No. 2

The Odyssey continues its impressive run in South Korea, claiming the country’s box office crown for a sixth consecutive weekend. Christopher Nolan’s epic remained far ahead of its competition during the September 11–13 frame, while the horror thriller Obsession moved into second place during its second weekend.

According to data from the Korean Film Council’s KOBIS tracking system, The Odyssey generated approximately $3.9 million from 449,474 admissions across 1,648 screens. The film accounted for 51.4% of South Korea’s total weekend box office, extending its cumulative local gross to roughly $89.6 million from more than 10.78 million admissions.

The Odyssey Maintains Its Box Office Dominance

Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic poem has shown remarkable staying power in South Korea since opening on August 5. The film stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and features an ensemble cast including Tom Holland, Anne Hathaway, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson and Charlize Theron.

Its sixth straight weekend at No. 1 comes despite competition from several major releases. KOBIS data shows that The Odyssey continued to command more than half of the weekend market, demonstrating that audiences have continued returning to the film well after its opening period.

The movie’s cumulative performance is particularly notable in admissions, with more than 10.78 million tickets sold in South Korea. That puts The Odyssey among the strongest-performing international releases in the Korean market this year.

Obsession delivered the weekend’s second-biggest performance, collecting approximately $1.4 million from 176,479 admissions across 845 screens. The film represented 18.6% of the weekend market and raised its cumulative total to around $3.7 million from 474,818 admissions.

Meanwhile, Spider-Man: Brand New Day remained in third place during its seventh weekend. The Marvel blockbuster added roughly $544,000 from 84,719 admissions, taking its South Korean total to approximately $68.7 million from 8.93 million admissions.

The remaining top 10 included The Drama, The Journey to Gyeongju, Power Ballad, Hope, Inuyasha the Movie: Affections Touching Across Time, Portrait of a Family and the animated adventure Forgotten Island.

Overall, South Korea’s weekend box office generated approximately $7.6 million, down from $9.8 million during the previous weekend.
