Filone told Rachael that the title did not interest her much, and even though she got voted queen, there was not much they could do. Rachael disagreed with Filone; she told her tonight was different, and she may find it helpful to do whatever was necessary to have that position. Because Lady Veronica had her sights set on the Duke, Veronica approached Duke Devonshire and told him it had been a long time.
Duke Devonshire reminded her they met yesterday, and Veronica told him that’s not what she meant. Veronica mentioned that ten years ago, when she was a little girl, they met at the royal palace, and Veronica asked him if she remembered her. Duke Devonshire apologized to Veronica and told her he could not remember everyone he met. Veronica assured him it was fine as long as he could remember her after tonight.
Filone was not sure if Duke Devonshire was making eye contact with her. The waiter spilled wine on Filone, but she assured him that she was fine.
