Sako had taken in a stray black cat. However, she never expected that he would become the equivalent of her housekeeping life partner. Yuchiki, the giant humanoid cat who towers over Saku, is not your ordinary feline. He is a smart cat who takes great pride in his culinary skills, and a good sale at the supermarket always gets his whiskers twitching. Saku may not have her act together yet, but at least she has Yukichi to care for her.

Episode 1 of the anime was really awesome, and if you are a cat lover and have cats, then I highly recommend turning this on while your cat is in the room with you. I think your cat will probably get a really good thrill out of watching this!

This show might lead you to question things like how this cat is standing, why the cat is overgrown, and how it is cooking. Initially, you might feel why are you even watching this stupid show, but this anime slowly grows on you. This anime is actually pretty damn awesome that would make you fall in love with it.

The first episode opens with a sequence of just this pan shot of the city that they were in. The combined use of lightning and a lot of lens flare light up buildings and give a little sparkling effect, making the scenes look really good. The summer photography in the opening sequence does a great job of using 3D background rendering, and 2D anime worked wonders just in terms of the animation front. The voice acting is also really good.

Episode one of the anime is a bit confusing and might lead you to question whether it’s the cat or Saku, the one who is depressed because it’s Saku who doesn’t have her life together. While the cat appears to have his life in order. Yukichi, the cat, seems to be doing just fine; he is content with just doing all the household chores in order to take care of its owner, Saku.

Meanwhile, Saku is pretty miserable. She is quite clumsy and seems to be an alcoholic, as she always wants to drink. The episode is really satisfying; however, we didn’t get enough backstory until the end, where we only get a quick flashback about how they met. And let me tell you this, it’s pretty sad. We see an abandoned Yukichi being thrown stones at when Saku rescues him. Yukichi’s backstory seems to be interesting, and we would love to see it being explored a bit more. It would be interesting to see his life as a stray and also get a background on why he was abandoned.

And then there’s Saku, who is a complete mess. So it kind of feels more like Yukichi adopted her and not the other way around. The cat is very protective of her and meets her every need, so much so that it seems as if she cannot survive without him. I mean, throughout the whole episode, we see her co-workers being like, you need a man to be in a relationship with and eventually get married. They told her that she needed someone to take care of her because she was a mess.

Moreover, I believe that due to the cat being huge in size, Saku doesn’t really let him outside all that often. I guess she is afraid that he might be labeled as a freak, but there is actually this sweet old lady who knows about Yukichi’s existence. This kind of makes me curious as to how the people are going to react when they finally discover him.

Overall it is just an amusing, relaxed type of anime that you will really enjoy watching. And if you are a cat lover, I recommend watching it along with your cat. I mean, everyone would love to have a cat like this, who’s not only well-behaved but also cooks and cleans!
