Drama Republic and Sky Studios announced the project, The Lovers, for Sky Atlantic in June 2022. Written by David Ireland and directed by Justin Martin, the six-part series was filmed in Belfast in the Summer of 2022.
The Lovers is about a foul-mouthed supermarket worker falling for a sorted and ambitious political television broadcaster. However, the male protagonist already has a celebrity girlfriend. Thus, it will be interesting to see how the leading characters get into a relationship and handle their other personal issues.
The Lovers cast includes Conleth Hill, Roisin Gallagher, Johnny Flynn, and Alice Eve. You must have seen Conleth Hill in Game of Thrones (2011-2019) playing Varys. He also appeared in Official Secrets (2019), To Olivia (2021), Sherlock (2014), and more.
Roisin Gallagher has a longer stage career than television and movies. However, she appeared in The Dry (2022), To Lose Control (2013), Just Johnny (2021), and more. Johnny Flynn appeared in Genius (2017), Les Miserables (2018), The Outfit (2022), and more. The British actress Alice Eve is known for Bombshell (2019), The Power (2023), Iron Fist (2018), and more.

The Lovers Preview
Janet is a foul-mouthed and hilarious supermarket worker who hardly cares for anything, including her life. On the other hand, a selfish, egoistic, and handsome political television broadcaster, Seamus, enters her life. Seamus has a celebrity girlfriend, Frankie, and it looks like there is nothing he did not achieve. Love will blossom when expected the least in this series.
According to Roisin Gallagher, she cares for her character, Janet, who does not care about herself. People will at least remember her for her grit and strength resulting from past bitter experiences. People meeting Janet for the first time will find her lost in her world.
Still, Janet keeps living. She is courageous and hides her insecurities with her epic sense of humor. Further, she unexpectedly falls for a guy, and their relationship becomes a roller coaster ride. It involves expectations, desires, disappointments, and other obstacles.
Roisin Gallagher is an experienced Northern Irish actress and playwright. Still, she admits having learned a lot from Johnny Flynn while filming the series.

According to Johnny Flynn, who plays Seamus, Janet and Seamus think their exterior identities define their inner personalities. However, the two will discover their inner selves with time. They will learn that their battle is not with the people around them but with their own beliefs.
Seamus hides his past trauma with his arrogance. However, he will come up as a sweet guy in further episodes, helping him discover himself. Johnny Flynn wants the viewers to feel sad for Frankie, who gets punished for no crime because Seamus does not appropriately handle his feelings.
Meanwhile, Flynn will appear in one more Sky Atlantic series, Ripley, as Dickie Greenleaf, and a Netflix movie, Scrooge: A Christmas Carol, as a voice artist for Bob Cratchit. Both projects will be released this year.
Conleth Hill plays Philip, who administers Janet at the supermarket. He does not tolerate the mess created by other employees. However, he remains calm in the case of Janet because he is suspicious of her insecurities. On the other hand, Janet does not hesitate to treat him rudely.
Conleth appreciates the efforts of the writer, David Ireland. Conleth directed two plays and short films written by David. However, he will act in a series written by David for the first time. It is a complex process for David but joyful for the others.
