The Devil is a Part-Timer! Season 2 Episode 8 is set to release this week. The Devil Is a Part-Timer will return to Kadokawa in 2021 for a second season, with the main cast reprising their roles from the previous season. The Devil Is a Part-Timer is animated by 3Hz under the direction of Daisuke Chikushi and features characters designed by Ydai Iino and Yoshihiro Takeda as chief animators.
We see in episode 7 that Emi meets Maou and his group later that night to discuss everything she learned from Camio with them at the lighthouse. As Olba informs them of the sacred sword in Tokyo and how it will allow them to rule over all, giving them a Yesod fragment to help them locate it, they reveal that he traveled to the demon realm and stimulated discourse among the demons. Barbariccia is the demon leading these hardliners. Moreover, Emi informs Amane that a group of hardliners will show up at their location shortly and that they chose to keep this secret from her because of her unknown enormous power and their desire to avoid killing. Emi fights the Malebranche, demons led by Ciriotta, who arrive through a gate. Taking Maou’s sword, Amane trusts them to do the job correctly.
The Devil is a Part-Timer! Season 2 Episode 7 Review
There doesn’t seem to be any real resolution to the plotlines this show starts, despite its appearance of having plans to do so. It bounces around from subject to subject. In the latest episode, we got some answers to the following questions: Who is the new landlady? why is she systematically destroying Maou’s demons while giving the Demon Lord the task of looking after her holiday restaurant? And where do her loyalties lie? Unfortunately, many others went unanswered. An episode of this show often consists of two parts: one is a slice-of-life episode about Maou, Ashia, and the others attempting to survive in a human world that is still foreign to them, and the other is a supernatural fantasy episode about Maou, Emilia, and the start of everything.
Although opinions may vary, this writer prefers the slice-of-life elements over fantasy ones, especially since they are what set this show apart from others of its type. It also pays attention to every character on the show. Every time the show dives headfirst into its fantasy aspects, it becomes harder to enjoy it for what it is. Even while Alas Ramus is a fantastic addition to the fantasy plot this season, it still falls short of a straightforward day spent with Maou and Chiho at a fake McDonald’s. This episode, which was fine but has already been covered, was almost totally focused on Ente Isla and the forces attempting to bring it down.
So it was a fine episode that moved the plot forward by blaming Olba again, who is something of a white whale of the show if you will. Whenever anything goes wrong in the show, you can almost always blame Olba. The storyline would have been better had the heroes finally gotten their hands on him (Lucifer is exempt), but regardless of what he does next, he isn’t an extremely evil villain. Just an extremely random one with no connection to either Emi or Maou.
Even though this episode left us with a blank slate, there was a lot of potential for the show to go into a decent series of events after this, but it was also disappointing because the current plot was resolved precariously and much room for improvement was left open. Maou’s return to his roots is always nice and makes one appreciate the respect he once held, but that magic wears down every time he assumes that form and he isn’t very powerful anymore. Maou may be a sweetheart, but he sure doesn’t look like a demon king to me.
