The Dark Mage’s Return to Enlistment is the story of a young man, Kim Min-Joon, who was summoned to an alternate world to be their Champion. He was summoned to Isgard by the Saintess, who put him under intense training to turn him into a killing machine, more specifically, A Dark Mage. A Dark Mage uses Demonic Energy for their magic which is very frowned upon in Isgard. Therefore, his existence was something that remained confidential.
Min-Joon was forced to stay in the shadows while others claimed credit for his actions. And after finally destroying everyone who might become a threat to the development of Isgard Min-Joon asked to be sent back to his world. The Saintess tried her best to make Min-Joon reconsider, but he had already made up his mind. The Saitness agrees, under one condition.
Min-Joon must give up on the powers he cultivated during his time in Isgard. Min-Joon had other plans as he immobilized the Saitness as she opened the portal and escaped back to Earth with his abilities intact. Soon he found himself back in his old room. Little did he know, the world he left behind was there no more. The world went through a Dungeon Break, giving birth to the awakened.
Min-Joon tries to use his powers but is shocked to find out he lacks demonic energy. He theorizes that the reason would be the lack of it on Earth. Even though he lost his magical prowess, his physical attributes remained unchanged. Because of this, he can hide in plain sight among the awakened. Even though he was back from war, he got no time to celebrate.
Min-Joon appeared right at the beginning of another. He gets a notification asking him to enlist for the mandatory military service. With his experience, he quickly climbed to the top shocking everyone. Min-Joon was on a completely different level than any other awakened. He joins the military under the Hunter Corp. He picks the 104th Division, known as the Invisible Hunter Squad.

Just after days of becoming Private First Class, Min-Joon found himself preparing for yet another promotion. However, this time he will need to go through an extensive assessment. He attended an orientation class for the same which gave him an idea of what to expect. The test will comprise a written exam, a physical assessment, and a weapons exam.
Aside from Min-Joon, there was another who was taking the advancement exam under special circumstances. It was Son Eun-Seo, the daughter of General Son and an extremely talented awakened. Even though she had skills far exceeding that of others, she was still being overshadowed by Min-Joon’s achievements. She became jealous and tried competing with him.
Min-Joon soon proved to Eun-Seo that he was not to be trifled with. While both of them passed their exams, Min-Joon outshined Eun-Seo at every step. He becomes the first person to score perfect marks on all exams and the youngest to be promoted to Corporal. He plans to use his position to finally train Lee Dong-Jin to release his full potential.

Now that Min-Joon is a Corporal, he has a lot more Freedom to move around now. He is certainly not allowed to just waltz into any dungeon he pleases just yet. But he is closer to his goal. Maybe he can revisit that Dungeon and absorb more of the Demonic Energy. Furthermore, he will have his hands full with training Dong-Jin. He does have the skills to become a top awakened, but what he lacks is confidence in himself.
