Investigation Discovery’s latest documentary The Curious Case of Natalia Grace seems more bone-chilling than anything we’ve seen on the platform. The series centers around the infamous child “imposter”, Natalia Grace, where the three-part documentary series will be taking us through the depths of what went down between Natalia and the Barnett family, which includes Kristina, Michael, and their three sons.
Not only will we be seeing exclusive interviews but we’ll also get to see a darker side of the Barnett family that they might have tried to hide in the past. Natalia was 6 at the time of being adopted, back in 2010. The Barnetts were looking for a new member to add to their family, and despite knowing Natalia had health issues, they decided to adopt her. Things soon started getting weird for the family as Natalia would threaten them with knives and even tried to poison Kristina by mixing bleach in her drinks.
Kristina claims she had gathered enough evidence that suggested Natalia was much older than her birth certificates from Ukraine had shown. The couple was so firm on their beliefs that they changed Natalia’s birth year to 1989 instead of 2003, which means she would now be almost 34. Despite what the family says, Natalia had earlier appeared in interviews and said she was just a child back when the Barnetts had adopted her. The family who later adopted Natalia back up her words as they were the ones who looked after her when the Barnetts decided to abandon Natalia.
Both sides have something to say, but with no side coming forward to prove themselves, the mystery had stayed dormant for a while. The similarity of the incident with the 2009 film “Orphan” has also created much talk, with people guessing the Barnetts could have been inspired by the events of the movie and tried to use the same plot against an innocent child. Now that ID will be taking us through a deep dive into the strange incident, we might finally get a better look at Natalia’s case.
The Curious Case of Natalia Grace: What Will The Documentary Talk About?
ID has been releasing many interesting documentaries lately but with The Curious Case of Natalia Grace, they are aiming to take things up a notch. We’ll be seeing exclusive one on one interviews with members of the Barnett family. There are rumors that Kristina was the one who came up with the plan to lie about Natalia’s age and had even treated her poorly despite being a mother. Although it’s not confirmed if we’ll be seeing Kristina, Michael, her husband, will surely be a part of the documentary.
After the family moved to Canada they left Natalia in Indianapolis all alone. Michael was made to go through trials after he was charged with abandoning a dependent and leaving for another country back in the late 2000s. This was because evidence of Natalia’s actual age was out and her birth mother herself claimed she was born in 2003. The documentary will talk about these issues within the family asides from featuring new evidence that would help clear the rumors once and for all.
