The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 7 is titled “The Freelancer Part 2” which is kind of an ironic name given that we have seen The Freelancer in multiple other Episodes beyond the original The Freelancer. And we’ll see if it’s really “Part 2” or “Conclusion” because the last Episode with the Good Doctor was also listed as “Part 2” and then when it actually aired it was “Conclusion” and Get Rid of Her.
I don’t think anybody wants to get rid of The Freelancer at this point. This is a particularly good Blacklister, like a dangerous one, somebody who’s capable of a lot of carnage.
And I think at this point, especially if some of us are feeling kind of like this Season has been very low stakes or low budget or very just sort of feeling small. The Freelancer is somebody who likes to try to have planes run into each other.
The Freelancer is somebody who you could have in like a Fast and the Furious movie or something. We will talk a little bit about his return, and what it means. There’s a little bit of a Ressler storyline in here as well. So it’s like “Here you go, Ressler. You’ve got something to do other than like tell Thea how hard it is to do this job”. It only took seven Episodes.
We will have a review of Episode 7, plus everything else that is coming our way through what is hopefully going to be a crazy informative endgame. Like we all want answers as to who Reddington is. Are we ever gonna get those? I don’t know. Well, we’ll see.
The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 7 Spoilers
Let’s just start this The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 7 Spoilers with our old buddy, Mr. Freelancer here. Apparently, he’s going to be turning back up. He’s gonna unveil this big scheme that’s involving a local photographer. And it’s like, OK, well, #1; Why would Wujing or Reddington care about a photographer at this point unless it’s like, can they photograph Reddington and Cooper? Do they have that like back in time somehow?
I mean that was the only big reveal in this last Episode. It’s that Wujing has kind of figured out a little bit of a connection with the task force and Cooper. So I mean maybe this photographer is going to be broadened the help. I don’t know. Figure out something with Cooper and get more information. The Freelance is going to be in there to help as well.
Who Dies In The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 7?
My real hope coming out of The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 7 is that The Freelancer is not going to also just get killed off. I talked a little bit about this in our review. That Wujing is seemingly getting together all these people from the Marvin List and then killing them all off. We don’t have that many people that he’s recruited that are still alive. So if we end up out of this Episode and The Freelancer is also dead then it would be weird.
Wujing’s whole plan is to get the information in the hard copy in his hand so that he can expose Reddington for being part of this task force and working with the FBI. But it’s like you’re killing off all the people who could possibly even care about this information.
Also, Blacklist doesn’t ruin your own fine. And by that I mean, The Freelancer is a fun villain. He’s like the very first non-pilot Episode. The Freelancer was in the second Episode of this show. Wujing is the third episode of this show. There’s like so much nostalgia. There is I think real potential to sort of have these two working together and sort of see what sort of chaos unfolds from that.
The Freelancer, his whole specialty is like staging these huge mass casualty events. And then like trying to find a way to, like, get rid of one person and to hide that crime amidst these other big elaborate things. There’s potential for him to have like all these cool action sequences, and like everything else. He’s just like he’s a great sort of Yin and Yang to Wujing. It’s a different sort of foil.
I just also really want to see more of Wujing working with people on the Blacklist. It was good to see sort of a little bit of that back and forth with him and Robert. Obviously, Robert was still, you know with Reddington. But it was still good to see him and the doctor working together and doing their thing. It was very little but it was something.
Here there’s like really some potential for something really great to see these guys like really coming together and plotting something out to move to that next step.
Is Wujing The Final Boss?
We’ve talked a little bit in these articles before about how long Wujing is going to be around. And my feeling is that he’s not necessarily like the final boss, but he is like a big boss to lead up to that. So we gotta have some sort of point where everything is going to come to a head with Wujing.
And I hope that it’s not going to be a situation where an Episode or two before that it finally all comes together and we are like “Ohh, that’s what Wujing is ultimately trying to do with exposing Reddington”. It’s like I want the full information on his plan sooner rather than later.
I mean, we don’t know if the show is airing over the summer or whatever else I mean there’s it seems based on rumors that it’s going to end in May and maybe come back in the fall. I wouldn’t be mad if the last episode before the hiatus is sort of the big final showdown with Wujing. But if that’s the case, I want to lead up to it.
Do you guys know how I feel? I really like Wujing. I really like Chin Han. It’s cool to see him in the opening credits now and all that. I don’t want to see him just gone halfway through and then for the last half, it’s like, what are we doing here?
The idea of Wujing and all the Blacklisters coming together to go after Reddington. And that he has to face everything that he has done and all the people that he has sold out to be able to further his own career. I wanted to see him face all these people. Wujing you need to stop killing them all.
Will Wujing Reveal Something About Reddington’s Past?
Here’s the big thing I want to see it. I literally just thought of this right now. So I don’t know if I’m gonna hold true to this opinion longer than the 5 minutes we’re talking in this article, but here we go. What if Wujing at some point during all his research and reconnaissance here, finds something on Reddington’s past, Reddington’s identity that we don’t know?
This is an opportunity for us to actually get a nugget of something that we have all sort of been craving. I don’t think Wujing is going to answer the final question for us. I think that’s something Reddington will probably have to answer himself.
But I think it would be a cool way to sort of like really bring back the first eight Seasons of this show to a certain extent. I don’t want us to just forget about these questions. Sort of like we’ve forgotten about Reddington’s illness that’s never brought.
It would be cool to sort of see him stumble upon this. Not necessarily the whole answer, but maybe parts of the answer of Who is Reddington. But I mean we don’t even know if we’re gonna get a real conclusive answer on that. We’ve talked about that here recently as well that the current showrunner is like “If it’s up to me, you’re going to get a conclusive answer, and if you don’t get a conclusive answer, I was overruled”.
So there’s obviously some back and forth going on behind the scenes on if they’re gonna ever give us an answer or not. Given how proficient apparently Eisendrath is, like subtly throwing other people under the bus. I wonder if they don’t end up selling their identity, is he gonna just, like, emerge somewhere and be like “It’s this person’s fault and then to the back out of the room.” I would absolutely love it. Be messy Eisendrath, we don’t mind.
What’s Going On With Ressler?
Then, another thing that’s going on in The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 7 is apparently Resslers hitting some sort of personal milestone. I’m assuming it’s his sobriety. It feels pretty obvious that this is sort of where they’re going. And that’s really important to Ressler. I understand that he’s going through a lot. I hope personally that this kind of dovetails into some other stuff for him.
Think back to the early years, like when he had a love interest, who was not in the FBI. He had seemingly some sort of life. And I know he had this whole thing in this past Episode being like “Being in this job. It takes a real toll on you”. It’s just OK, well, how about you get some of your power back here, Donald, and you try to find some sort of life outside of the job. You still have a choice.
If this is about his sobriety, I’d like to see it be more with him and Cooper and a little more with Dembe. Because they’ve been around through that more than Siya. They’re really pushing this connection between Ressler and Siya. And it’s not necessarily romantic, it doesn’t feel like it anyways, that that’s where they’re going.
But it really is a lot of this, like “you don’t know what it’s like to be on this job”. And it’s the same sort of thing over and over. And so if we are going into his sobriety and this is a big milestone, she hasn’t been around for it. I think she, of course, is gonna be supportive and be like, “Hey, man, that’s really great. Keep it up”. But because people like Cooper have been around for the whole thing, Dembe’s been around for a lot of it. I’d like to see sort of more connections with that.
Resslers Needs To Get A Life
I want a Cooper and Ressler scene where maybe it’s Cooper who is just sort of like, “Donald, I have a good life outside of the task force here. I’ve got my family. I’m taking care of Agnes. Reddington is on my couch”.
Sure, OK, it’s not perfect, but Cooper seemingly got at least some stuff going on outside of work. Cooper’s like the director. If he can find a way to figure this out, Ressler, you can too and there’s still hope for you. Just go join a book club. Just go and do something that is not being sad, missing Liz, or nearly dying on the job.
Ressler needs something outside of the job. And for me, if this whole series ends with him having something outside the job, it does not need to be a love interest, but something that is for him and it’s not like “Oh all my life is just the job”. He does need something else and I would feel pretty good about that to see that he has something outside the job by the time this all wraps up.
Ressler at the end of this is gonna be like “I want more fun in my life. Who is fun for me? Oh, Roy” He’s gonna move to New York City. They’re gonna be, like “You know what? Let’s go out tonight. Let’s go to the karaoke bar”. They’re gonna go there and Connor Roy is gonna be there singing Leonard Cohen, and then they’re all gonna, hang out together. That is how the show is ending.
Alright, well let us know your theories. What do you think is going to be going on here with The Freelancer, and with Ressler? Are we really building towards something here? Let’s cross our fingers. But now I want to talk a bit about Episode 6.
Doing The Comic Book Thing
One thing that I kind of like the show was doing and they could amp this up to another level to me, is like early on in the episode when you have Wujing sort of being like “I’ve gotten this person. It is Doctor Perillos” and they do this flashback thing. It reminds me a lot of just these old superhero comics where they’re like “This villain has been busted out of prison and you know him, you fear him, it is Doctor Octopus”.
I really want them to sort of embrace that and have a little bit more fun. Like this goes back to something that we talked about here and there. It’s like there are still great characters, and there are great individual moments on the show, but it feels like right now there’s a little bit of that, like a stylistic soul that’s just not here with this Season. And I don’t know if that’s something that really left when Bokenkamp did. Because I kind of feel like it was still here and there last Season.
Nothing After Vesco’s Death
It’s a little bit of a beef, it’s just it’s a missed opportunity. I think that the biggest thing is that at the end of The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 7, we obviously see Vesco’s dead, we see Reddington, and we see him saying “Bring the body”. I wanted something to linger a little bit more with that. It felt very abrupt. It’s like “Well, Robert’s Dead”, black screen and credits.
It’s just that this is somebody who obviously we don’t necessarily care about Vesco as much as a lot of the other people who have been killed over the years. I mean, he’s only been in, I don’t know like a half dozen episodes.
I cared a bit about Vasco. I like him and I like their relationship, especially after just having this episode. Two episodes ago where it was like, “Yeah, you know, they’re on this adventure, this treasure hunt and all these memories, and seeing the back and forth”. I also wanted to see more of “Ohh Vesco’s dead. Let’s see more of Reddington and more of how he’s feeling about it and just more Reddington”.
Where Was Reddington’s Monologue?
That’s the important thing. To Reddington, this is far more than somebody who has appeared in a half dozen episodes. This is somebody who has been established as really his mentor. Like, really, the person who got him sort of his start in the criminal world. And even if he hasn’t been a part of his day-to-day life in years or whatever else, there is an opportunity for a great sort of Spader performance or monologue or something like that.
I mean, we all remember sort of the monologue after Glenn’s death, and how powerful that was. I just wanted there to be a little bit of something more were kind of makes Reddington realize his own mortality. Bring us back to kind of those themes that we’ve talked about, where everybody who has been close to him is dead.
Like is this why he’s keeping such a distance from a lot of people? And like couch surfing and being very, very aloof. I know they don’t like to get us inside Reddington’s head, but it’s kind of important here and there.
They have given us a lot of insight into him over the years, but this Season is definitely missing. I’m going to Miss Vesco just because he’s a good foil for Reddington and Stacy Keach is always a good actor. I think he’s great. He had his moment in the sun and it’s just like the rest of The Blacklist Season 10 Episode 6 felt like it could have been great. And that’s what I’m frustrated about. And also Ressler and Nancy had absolutely nothing to do with the entirety of it.
Ressler and Nancy had absolutely nothing to do and it was a bit of a disappointing moment to see it and be like “Wow, I really didn’t know it was gonna kind of be like this”.
Like you’re a spy. You may not have as much field experience, but you’ve been trained and have some experience to sort of have seen some stuff”. It just feels like, you know, this is the craziest thing you’ve ever seen, everything that went on with the doctor and Denbw. It’s just like, well, then why was she brought on to the task force?
