You have to tip your hat to Jimmy Fallon, as he managed to pull out a celebrity singing charity contest show from the routines he usually has his guests perform from his late-night show. That’s the concept of That’s My Jam, where Jimmy has four celebrities sing and perform pop songs with fun twists for their favorite charity. In essence, that’s the show, it’s funny, sometimes corny, but it’s the kind of show you’ll watch while you’re cooking your kid’s dinner.
Now in its sophomore season, the latest episode did everything but disappoint as we had Broadway, glam rock, hip hop, and even a capella singing all in one package that had the audience doing standing ovations as the four contestants gave amazing performances that we will recap for you in the following sections.
That’s My Jam Season 2 Episode 7 Recap
We kick off the show with Jimmy Fallon making a grand entrance, followed by presenting one-half of the legendary Outkast, a six-time Grammy Award-winner Big Boi, and the longest-running cast member in SNL’s history Kenan Thompson. Their opponents are a multi-platinum selling popstar, Kesha, who teams up with Tony Award winner and Hamilton cast member Renée Elise Goldsberry.
We begin with “The Vinyl Countdown,” where one of the contestants pulls a record from a tray in front of them, then their partner must guess the band or artist listed on that record without naming the actual band or artist. The first category is “halftime heroes,” and the round goes for Kesha and Renée as Big Boi has trouble describing several records. The next round goes for Big Boi and Kenan because Renée got stuck describing the Killers. Finally, Kesha and Renee won the last round!

Undercover Covers
In this segment, six musicians are waiting backstage, and the contestants choose their silhouettes. They’ll come out to play a song in a unique style, and the contestants must recognize the song. If they guess it first, they get the points. First up are some dudes with saxophones playing Aqua’s Barbie Girl and Kesha and Renee. Guess it is right.
Then, Kenan and Big Boi pick a one-man band dude who plays the tune “Killing Me Softly,” and after some banter with Renee, the points go to Kenan and Big Boi. For the final round, it’s a quartet of a capella singers doing Outkast’s Hey Ya, which Big Boy recognizes instantly, which seems kind of rigged, in my opinion. Then, the same singers hum “Milkshake” by Kelis and Kenan, and Big Boi lands it again, grabbing the points.
New Game: Don’t Fear The Speaker
It’s a giant boom box that gives one word and the title of the song, and the contestants must sing the song only with that word. Kenan and Kesha will sing for their respective teams. The first and second round goes to Big Boi and Kenan.
Wheel of Impossible Karaoke
The next segment has the contestants singing silly versions of Karaoke, and the first up is Big Boi, who must sing “Just a Friend” by Biz Markie with several microphones that change his voice, and he manages to do it but laughs while performing. Then, It’s Kesha’s turn which gets a song title and a different music style that she must sing the song, and it’s Rihanna’s “Umbrella” but in the style of glam rock.
When it’s Kenan’s turn to sing, he must sing Oasis’s Wonderwall but in the style of the Sugarhill Gang, and he can’t help but cringe as he has to ridicule himself while doing it. Renée had to sing Justin Timberlake’s “Sexy Back” in the tune of a Broadway musical that made her team take the round.
