Tesla is recalling 3,878 Cybertrucks due to a potential safety issue flagged by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) involving the accelerator pedal pad.
The NHTSA warns that the loose pedal could lead to unintentional acceleration, increasing the risk of accidents.
The recall comes amidst Tesla’s recent stock decline, with shares falling nearly 3%. However, the company has a history of addressing issues through over-the-air software updates, which may mitigate the impact of recalls on its operations.
This recall adds to Tesla’s previous recalls in the first quarter of 2024, affecting approximately 2.4 million vehicles.
Despite the scale of these recalls, Tesla has often resolved issues through software updates, reflecting its proactive approach to addressing safety concerns.
Tesla will replace or repair the affected accelerator pedal assemblies at no cost to owners, with notifications expected to be mailed out in June.
The company’s Cybertruck electric pickup truck faced delays in production and battery-supply constraints before its late-year launch in 2023.
In February, Tesla recalled around 2.2 million vehicles in the United States due to font size discrepancies on warning lights.
Safety regulators upgraded their investigation into Tesla vehicles over power steering loss to the status of engineering analysis.
Despite these challenges, Tesla remains committed to ensuring the safety of its vehicles and addressing any identified issues promptly.
The recall underscores the company’s dedication to maintaining high safety standards for its products.
