While several athletes have recently come up with their stories and how they overcame their mental health struggles, a former tennis player has recently revealed a rather dark incident from her life that did put things into perspective.
Former tennis star Jelena Dokic has recently taken to her social media and made a shocking post about how she has been battling depression and anxiety and even attempted suicide earlier this year. Dokic is a big name in the field of tennis she is known to make it as high as No. 4 in the world and managed to reach the Wimbledon semifinals in 2000 when she was just 17 years old.
Jelena Dokic Opened Up About Her Mental Health Struggles
While talking about her mental health struggles, Jelena revealed how she “almost jumped off her 26th-floor balcony and was about to take her own life in April”. She further added how the last six months have been extremely difficult for her months as it has been constant crying everywhere. Jelena admitted that she has been hiding in the bathroom when at work to wipe away her tears so that nobody sees the unstoppable crying at home within her four walls, which she further described as unbearable.

The tennis star explained how professional help saved her life and further said how it was not easy to write, but she has always been open, honest, and vulnerable with her fans and deeply believes in the power of sharing their stories to help everyone get through things and to help each other. The candid confession was widely applauded as Jelena believes that she should be writing this because she knows that she is not the only one struggling.
Dokic has made quite a name for herself as she bagged the winning title six times in her career, with her most recent win being in Kuala Lumpur in 2011. However, Jelena Dokic retired in 2014 and has since worked as a tennis commentator in Australia. Dokic has been candid about the struggle that she had to overcome throughout her life in recent years. She revealed in an autobiography in 2017 that her father, who trained her as her coach too, used to regularly beat, kick, and belittle her.
