Syd Barrett has been making headlines for his documentary to set to release on April 27, 2023. Born in Cambridge, England, on January 6, 1946, Syd Barrett is a musician, singer, and writer. Syd Barrett is known for being the co-founder of Pink Floyd, a rock band. Syd Barrett was originally Roger Keith Barrett and took the name after an old jazz bassist.
Syd was born to Arthur Max Barrett, a pathologist, and belonged to a middle-class family. Syd was raised in Hills Road and loved to paint as a child. Barrett sang songs from Psychedelic pop, acid rock, and experimental rock genres. Barrett finished his high school graduation from Cambridge High School For Boys.
Syd Barette formed Geoff Mott and the Mottoes, his first band, and his mother encouraged him to keep singing to help him deal with the loss of his father. Barette was admitted to Cambridge College Of Arts and Technology, majoring in arts. He met David Gilmour during his college stay. Syd started to write songs and became a part of the Pink Floyd band in 1965, and they went to a studio for the first time.
Barrett left the band in 1968, as he was struggling with his mental health, and embarked on the journey of a solo singing career a year after he left the band. The erratically brilliant singer is no more with us and left for his heavenly abode on 7 July 2006 at the age of 60. Barrett lost his life after a battle with pancreatic cancer, and he was cremated in the presence of Pink Floyd members.
EMI Records released an album in 1988. Even though Barrett had been in a relationship with several women, he never married anyway, and he doesn’t have any children. He was engaged to Gayla Pinion, but the couple broke up before tying the knot.
Apart from his career as a band artist and writer Barrett appeared in some films between 1966 to 2003. Some of Barrett’s known works include The Madcap Laughs, Barrett, The Piper at the Gates of Dawn, A Saucerful of Secrets, and The Early Years 1965-1972. Barrett was made a part of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1966. His ex-bandmates have given him several homages and tributes, including Shine On You Crazy Diamond.
