Recap of season 2 of Surviving R. Kelly
A woman, Jerhonda P., claimed that when she was with her kids in a parking lot, unknown people—possibly Mr. Kelly’s fans—threatened to beat her up. The brothers of Mr. Kelly talked about their upbringing in Chicago, along with how a friend and a family member had sexually molested Kelly.
Ms. Hawkins tells her experience for the first time on film in Episode 2 of the series. She claimed that she linked him to other young girls someone he had intercourse, all of whom were between the ages of 13 and 16. This is why Mr. Kelly used to refer to her as the “wire girl” since she set him up. At the moment, he was 26. Later, Mr. Kelly also started having intercourse with her.
Later, she filed a lawsuit against him, and the settlement amount was $250,000. She agreed to a confidentiality clause as part of the payment, the first in a string of confidentiality clauses with women that’d preserve his alleged behavior hidden and, it seems, permit it to continue.
Audiences met Lindsey P. Dunn and other former Mr. Kelly workers on Thursday night. Although she viewed the footage at the center of his 2008 pornography prosecution and thought it revealed him having intercourse with an adolescent girl, she claimed she did not accept the waves of accusations against him.
Carey Kelly, one of K’s brothers, claimed that the musician promised him a vehicle, a recording contract, and $50,000 in exchange for saying that Carey Kelly was in the video. He declined. This episode is consistent with Lanita Carter’s narrative, which which details yet another negative interaction she had with Mr. Kelley.
When she initially met Michael, Ms. Carter, then 24 years old, was in his hair braided ponytail. He did not have to pay her much, but the fact that she could say she cut hair for a star helped her company. She was required to be available for him at all times.
She said that Mr. Kelly attacked her one day. She was forced to engage in oral sex, after which he ejaculated and spat on her face. Ms. Carter contacted the police. With tears flowing down her cheeks, she recounted the subsequent ordeal as excruciating: She claimed that the police didn’t seem to believe her and that, ultimately, the decision was made not to press charges.
She said she’d never intended to sue Mr. Kelly; however, after considering her choices, she gave in to pressure to file a lawsuit and reach a settlement. She also entered into a confidentiality clause, which she was violating by discussing.
He claimed to be her big brother, she remarked. Then sometimes it felt as though he did end my life in seconds. Authorities reexamined Ms. Carter’s story this year after the “Having survived R. Kelly” broadcast and found it believable. They used it as evidence when they accused R. Kelly of sexually abusing numerous women.
We met Dominique Gardener here, whose family’s attempts to get her out of Mr. Kelly’s grasp were a key subject in the first season. Ms. Gardner, who was seen in “Surviving R. Kelly” yet was not interviewed made a big claim. She claimed to have known the said artist for nearly ten years.
He oversaw her eating and restroom habits throughout that period and who she could speak to, and where she could go, according to her and her mom, Michelle Kramer. In the first season, Ms. Kramer discovers her child in a hotel in Los Angeles; she convinces Ms. Gardener to break up with Mr. Kelly.
After seeing him again three days later, she eventually left forever. Ms. Gardener and Ms. Kramer describe him as incredibly domineering and physically aggressive. According to Ms. Kramer, Mr. Kelley would hit Ms. Gardner using belts, boots, extensions, wires, and “anything you could imagine of.”
Ms. Gardner claimed that Mr. Kelly had yanked her hair out after she ignored his beckoning to approach him at a gathering. She was abandoned by Mr. Kelly on a three-day bus tour with no food or water, though her mother claims an assistant smuggled some in.
According to Ms. Gardner, the most time she had ever spent sequestered alone was one and a half weeks. It felt sad and lonely,” she added. “Yes there was feeling that I will not need to live any longer. Simply put, it was dark.
He had urged Jerhonda Pace to join a suicide pact, according to Pace, who first encountered Mr. Kelly when she started to support him at his 2008 sentencing at the age of 15.Their relationship lasted for several months. She claimed that she accepted because she was so psychologically reliant on him at that time.
The two young ladies, Joycelyn Cain and Azriel Clary, who stayed with Mr. Kelly while the film was being shot, were the center of “The Reckoning’s” final chapter. They were absent from family gatherings like a dad’s funeral and graduation. Their parents and family couldn’t talk to them because they hadn’t seen them in a long time.
Their parents discuss their attempts to bring their kids home in lengthy interviews. In Tampa, Florida, Ms. Clary’s mom and brother Armani went to an R. Kelly performance in the hopes of spotting her. She was there, performing. Her mum went onto the platform to console her child before being restrained and taken to the police by police.
Additionally, a police car was used to remove Armani. Although both of the young women agreed to an appearance with the producers, they revealed to Gayle King of “CBS This Day” the year before that they’re both happily and voluntarily living with Mr. Kelly, notwithstanding their families’ accusations that they were brainwashed.
Key points to remember before watching season 3
In season 2, the brothers provide more information regarding their allegations that R. Kelly was sexually abused between the ages of 7 and 14 or 15 by a man’s “neighborhood uncle,” known as Mr. Henry, and a close female relative. Carey Kelly alleges that Mr. Henry offered their mom $5,000 for her quiet on the abuse.
Part II offers a firsthand account of the mayhem that broke out when a special viewing of Surviving R. Kelly on December 2018, which several victims attended, was called off due to a threat of gunfire. Returning victim Kitti Jones says, “That’s when I understood something significant is in this movie and that someone is attempting to make sure it’s never seen.
Asante McGee, a recurring survivor, expressed concern that safety concerns would prevent Lifetime from airing the original docuseries. However, after the airing of the Academy award documentary, lawyer Allred, who has defended dozens of Kelly’s victims, saw the change: “The one with the dread is the rapist or the one who sexually attacked or raped a child.”
Many victims give specifics regarding the criticism they faced after coming out. The producers meet with Lindsay P. Dunn, who served as Kelly’s publicist and assistant between 1999 and 2007, to talk about the “Surviving Lies” pages on social media that went live when the initial docuseries was aired specifically targeted a lot of the survivors.
Tiffany Hawkins, who met Kelly when she was 15 and filed a lawsuit against the singer in 1991, is one of the new victims who come forward in Part II. Hawks and re-interviewee Jovante Cunningham build a narrative about how Kelly allegedly engaged in threesomes with Ebony Wilkins.
He encountered Kelly when she was 15, using them to contact other girls between the ages of 14 and 16. A few months after they first met, Kelly only let Hawkins about, and she claims their connection developed into something more.
