The cast of “Superman: Legacy” has been finalized, with Sara Sampaio playing Eve Teschmacher and Skyler Gisondo playing Jimmy Olsen.
They co-star with Nicholas Hoult as the renowned antagonist Lex Luthor and previously announced actors David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan as Clark Kent and Lois Lane.
Gisondo, best known for his parts in Paul Thomas Anderson’s “Licorice Pizza” and HBO’s “The Righteous Gemstones,” will play a young photographer at “The Daily Planet” who works with Lois Lane and Clark Kent. In the 1950s television series “Adventures of Superman,” Jack Larson played Jimmy Olsen. Sam Huntington and Marc McClure then took on the role in later adaptations.
Selecting Skyler Gisondo for Jimmy Olsen is a great choice
It was a great choice to cast Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen because he can really bring the passion needed for the character that Superman’s friend represents.
Jimmy first appeared in the Superman mythos nearly a century ago, making his official debut in the Adventures of Superman radio serial in 1940 and Superman #13 in late 1941. Jimmy first appeared in the Superman mythos in 1938’s Action Comics #6.
Actors such as Jack Larson, Mark McClure, Sam Huntington, Aaron Ashmore, and Mehcad Brooks have portrayed the character in a number of live-action versions over the years. The inclusion of this wide-eyed photographer by Gunn gives the Superman story a crucial finishing touch that gives it an authentic feel.
Sara Sampaio will play Lex Luthor’s assistant
The Portuguese model Sara Sampaio will play Lex Luthor’s assistant, who later became his love interest in “Superman: Legacy.”
Valerie Perrine in the Christopher Reeve movies and Andrea Brooks in “Supergirl” on The CW both had earlier roles as this character. James Gunn is the director of the movie, which is the first full-length production from the recently revived DC Studios.
With the release of recent DC film letdowns such as “The Flash” and “Shazam: Fury of the Gods,” Gunn and co-chief Peter Safran intend to change the course of DC’s motion picture and television endeavors. “Legacy,” which opens in theaters on December 22, will be preceded by the Jason Momoa-led sequel “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom.”
What will “Superman: Legacy” be about?
While specifics about “Superman: Legacy” are being withheld, Peter Safran has made indications that the plot will center on Superman embodying justice, truth, and the American way of life while balancing his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing.
He is portrayed in the story as a beacon of kindness in a society that may consider kindness to be archaic. Even with the strikes by writers and actors causing delays, the movie is still scheduled to open on July 11, 2025.
Since the filming has resumed, the director has been completing the cast, utilizing social media to verify the casting of María Gabriela de Faría as the Engineer, Nathan Fillion as Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl.
Warner Bros. has provided an explanation of the narrative direction of the film, which James Gunn clarified as not being an origin story despite the absence of an official synopsis.
Superman: Legacy delves into Superman’s attempt to reconcile his Kryptonian ancestry with his Smallville, Kansas, upbringing as Clark Kent. He is the embodiment of justice, truth, and the American way, led by compassion in a society that too frequently considers compassion as archaic.
Nicholas Hoult is the new Lex Luthor in “Superman: Legacy”
In “Superman: Legacy,” Nicholas Hoult will play the lead antagonist, Lex Luthor, completing the ensemble cast for the superhero film directed by James Gunn.
As Lois Lane and Clark Kent, respectively, Rachel Brosnahan and David Corenswet have already been confirmed, so Hoult will play the iconic figure recognized for his bald head and unwavering quest to vanquish the Last Son of Krypton.
Although there were earlier rumors that suggested Hoult was being considered for the lead role, Gunn—the writer-director and co-chief of DC Studios—cast him as Lex Luthor in the end.
