There are many similarities between The Undertaker and Sting, two of the greatest professional wrestlers of all time. Having been in the pro wrestling business for more than thirty years, both have a distinguished legacy. Taker had a phenomenal run in WWE, while Sting had a fantastic run in WCW and TNA.
Within the wrestling community, there have long been whispers and rumors regarding a possible showdown between them. Nevertheless, despite being on the same promotion in 2015 and 2016, it didn’t happen. At this point, Sting revealed why the bout between him and Taker never took place.
Sting on why the match with The Undertaker never happened
“The Icon” during a recent interview with CBS Sports’ Shakiel Mahjouri, Sting was questioned about why he hasn’t taken on The Undertaker.
The Icon responded by saying that although he had many grandiose plans for the event, they were all smoke and mirrors. Sting thinks the match would have gone down in history if it had been executed properly. Sting said,
“I believe that if it had been executed properly, it might have been a night that everyone would always remember. They would still be discussing it now. However, that was simply not going to occur.
“Well, maybe if I get my foot in the door, we’ll see what happens,” was my thought. I therefore gained entry. After we completed a WrestleMania match alongside Triple H, Vince [Vince McMahon] contacted and requested that Seth and I have a world title match.
Are you able to carry out that task? Yes, I would be open to doing that. Nevertheless, with the hope that I may enter there with Taker in some way. “Over the years, I had a ton of ideas. Smoke and mirrors aren’t always desirable things.
However, I believe that we needed more smoke and mirrors in our scenario because of his gimmick and the mysteries surrounding both his and my characters. “I believe that night would have left a lasting impression on individuals.
Oh, how I wish I could have seen that. I would have been happy to have that match by myself. There would have been nothing more for me to do.
