Star Trek: Lower Decks is a popular adult-targeted animated television series from the United States. The ninth installment of Alex Kurtzman, the executive producer, and the Star Trek franchise’s expanded universe made its premiere in 2020. Lower Decks is the franchise’s first animated and comedic series since Star Trek: The Animated Series aired in the 1970s. The story starts in the year 2380 and follows the Cerritos spaceship’s low-level support crew.
In the Star Trek world, where Earth is a member of the multi-species United Federation of Planets, Star Trek: Lower Decks is set in the late 24th century. Lower Decks centers on one of Starfleet’s least significant starships, the USS Cerritos, which travels the galaxy making contact with alien cultures. Starfleet is the military and exploration branch of the Federation.
In contrast to past Star Trek programs, Lower Decks centers on the tasks and adventures of the “lower deckers,” low-ranking officers with menial occupations, with the captain and other senior personnel appearing as supporting characters.

Star Trek: Lower Decks Season 3 Episode 6: Recap
The crew of the USS Cerritos initially experienced a particular kind of crossover — with the classic series Star Trek: Deep Space Nine — while Star Trek: Lower Decks and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds swiftly crossed over. The crew finds themselves in an unexpectedly violent situation when they are sent to hold a diplomatic mission on the beloved home station when the special envoy is transferred. Fortunately, the Cerritos team proved they weren’t as incompetent as they could have appeared and started working with some legendary figures still alive on DS9.
To conduct a diplomatic mission with the Karma, a commercial race from the Gamma Quadrant, the Cerritos are requested to travel to Deep Space Nine. While Beckett Mariner is dragged into the gathering of her girlfriend Jennifer’s friends, D’Vana Tendi lets her inner fangirl loose about the possibility of seeing DS9. She is noticeably more enthused than usual about the notion. When everyone boards the renowned home station, it becomes clear that Kira Nerys and Cerritos Chief Security Officer Shaxs participated in the Bajoran resistance during the Cardassian occupation.
Quark and the unusual bar on DS9 have grown into a major tourist destination due to his success in turning his bar into a franchise throughout the Alpha Quadrant. Tendi encounters a fellow Orion in Starfleet when visiting Sam Rutherford and Brad Boiler. This Orion makes Tendi uncomfortable due to more unfavorable preconceptions of their kind. While this is happening, Boiler, who just got over his Ned Flanders second, starts playing rounds of Dabo at Quarks. A Ferengi on the bar accuses him of being dishonest, only to be startled when Boiler reveals that Starfleet does not utilize platinum as currency.
While the Karma diplomatic mission is angered by the shift in Starfleet officers assembling with them and plans to respond violently if discussions fail, they are placaappeasedifts sent by Captain Carol Freeman for the occasion. However, Quark offends the Karemma diplomats over their Dominion connection during the Dominion War, causing them to unleash their invasion anyhow and causing DS9 to lose electricity. Rutherford believes his new Orion companion will utilize his pirating prowess to rescue the day, but he says he was adopted and has never stolen in his life.
