Square Enix has shared new details about Kingdom Hearts 4, including how the game will approach its Disney and Pixar worlds. Series director Tetsuya Nomura revealed that the upcoming RPG will feature fewer worlds than fans may expect, but each one will be more detailed than anything the series has created before.
Speaking in a new interview with Famitsu, Nomura said,
“This game features the most detailed worlds we’ve ever created. That’s why the total number of worlds isn’t very large.”
The recently revealed Coco world represents only a small part of the game, with Nomura teasing that more information will be shared before release.
The scale of Kingdom Hearts 4’s story is also reflected in its script. Nomura revealed that the game’s script is almost twice as long as the script for Kingdom Hearts 3, making the voice recording process particularly demanding.
“There were parts I wanted to include more of, but it was beyond the limits,”
Nomura said. Japanese voice recording has already been completed, while co-director Tai Yasue revealed that around 60–70% of the overseas voice recording is now finished.
The development team remains on track for Kingdom Hearts 4’s planned late 2027 release, with Yasue previously saying development is progressing more smoothly than ever in the history of the series. However, Nomura suggested that fans may need to wait a while before the next major update, as the team focuses on the game’s final stages.
