The Spirit Circle anime has officially been announced for December 2026, with REMOW revealing its first teaser trailer, visual, voice cast, and ending theme. Based on the manga by Satoshi Mizukami, known for Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer and Sengoku Youko, the television adaptation will bring its supernatural story of reincarnation and intertwined destinies to a new audience.
The announcement is particularly significant because the adaptation arrives on the 10th anniversary of the manga’s conclusion. It will also serve as the final directorial project of Tatsuo Sato, who passed away in April 2026. The production team completed the series while carrying forward his creative vision.
The Spirit Circle anime will consist of 18 episodes, with Japanese broadcasting and global streaming scheduled to begin in December. Streaming platforms have not yet been confirmed.
Spirit Circle Follows Two Souls Connected Across Seven Lifetimes
The story follows Fuuta Okeya, a middle school student who can see spirits. His ordinary school life changes when he meets Kouko Ishigami, a mysterious transfer student who suddenly attempts to kill him.
Kouko reveals that their connection stretches across multiple previous lives and tells Fuuta that she intends to destroy his soul and end their cycle of reincarnation. Confused by her hostility, Fuuta begins investigating their shared history using the Spirit Circle, a mysterious device that allows him to experience his past lives.
His journey takes him through seven different lifetimes, spanning various historical periods and even the distant future. Each experience reveals another part of the relationship between Fuuta and Kouko, gradually uncovering the events that brought their souls into conflict.

The original creator, Satoshi Mizukami, highlighted the challenge of adapting this structure into an anime. In his announcement comment, he explained:
“It’s a story that takes us through seven different lives, each set in a different time and place.”
Mizukami also noted that the production required an unusually large amount of worldbuilding, alongside a runtime that was longer than one cour but shorter than two. He thanked the production staff, particularly director Tatsuo Sato, for overcoming those challenges.
Tatsuo Sato’s Final Directorial Work Features an 18-Episode Story
The Spirit Circle anime is directed and composed by Tatsuo Sato, whose previous works include Martian Successor Nadesico, Bodacious Space Pirates, and Stellvia. He passed away in April 2026, making this adaptation his final directorial project.
Production was completed with assistant director Kentaro Mizuno helping carry forward Sato’s vision. Animation is being handled jointly by NAGOMI and EOTA, studios belonging to the Twin Engine Group.
Character designs are handled by Satoru Fujimoto, while Twin Engine is producing the series.
In a joint statement, NAGOMI, EOTA, and Twin Engine acknowledged Sato’s contribution, describing his knowledge, passion, and dedication as essential to the project. The team also expressed its gratitude for his work and offered condolences following his passing.
Mizuno described the adaptation as a coming-of-age story combining youthful adventure with science fiction. He also encouraged viewers to experience all 18 episodes, highlighting the production team’s efforts to bring the characters’ reincarnation journeys to life.
Kazuki Ura and Anna Nagase Lead the Spirit Circle Voice Cast
The announcement confirmed four main voice actors for the Spirit Circle anime:
| Character | Voice actor |
|---|---|
| Fuuta Okeya | Kazuki Ura |
| Kouko Ishigami | Anna Nagase |
| Rune | Eri Yukimura |
| East | Yuichi Nakamura |
Kazuki Ura expressed his excitement about playing Fuuta, describing him as an ordinary middle school student whose encounters with Kouko force him to confront complicated emotions from his previous lives.
Anna Nagase, who voices Kouko, revealed that she finished reading the original manga in a single day after becoming captivated by its story. She also explained that she approached the recording sessions carefully to capture Kouko’s determination, resolve, and emotional vulnerability.
Eri Yukimura described Rune as a cheerful and comforting presence, while Yuichi Nakamura encouraged viewers to pay close attention to the story as it moves between different eras and worlds.
Anna Nagase Performs the Anime’s Original Ending Theme
The Spirit Circle anime will feature an original ending theme titled “No Matter the World,” performed by Anna Nagase. This marks her first solo vocal performance on a song.
The track was written specifically for the adaptation and features a sweeping musical arrangement designed to complement the story’s themes of reincarnation and emotional connections.
The song’s creative credits include UiNA for lyrics and Tatsuya Kato for composition and arrangement.
Nagase explained that the song’s lyrics captured her attention through their combination of quiet prayers, rebirth, and conflicting emotions. She approached the performance while keeping the story’s mixture of cruelty, warmth, and emotional attachment in mind.
The first teaser trailer previews the anime’s characters and multiple past-life settings, offering an initial look at how the adaptation will present Mizukami’s interconnected narrative.
According to the official Spirit Circle anime website, the series is scheduled to begin broadcasting and streaming in December 2026. International streaming services and additional release information are expected to be announced later.
