Spider-Man: Brand New Day Hits $2.22 Billion, Now Just $44 Million Away From Beating Titanic

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is closing in on one of the biggest milestones in box office history. After four weeks in theaters, the Tom Holland-led Marvel film has reached an estimated $2.22 billion worldwide, placing it only $44 million behind James Cameron’s Titanic and its No. 5 position on the all-time global box office chart.

The film earned another $39 million domestically and $109 million worldwide during its fourth weekend. Its domestic total has now reached $854.9 million, while its international earnings stand at approximately $1.365 billion. The numbers have made Brand New Day the sixth-highest-grossing film ever worldwide.

Brand New Day Is Closing in on Titanic

James Cameron’s Titanic currently holds the fifth spot with approximately $2.264 billion, but Spider-Man: Brand New Day appears to have enough momentum to overtake it soon. The gap between the two films is now only $44 million, a figure the Marvel blockbuster could erase quickly if its strong theatrical run continues.

The movie has already enjoyed a historic start. Sony previously confirmed that Brand New Day earned $360 million domestically and $932 million worldwide during its opening weekend, setting a new domestic opening weekend record.

The latest Spider-Man adventure also surpassed the worldwide earnings of Star Wars: The Force Awakens during its run. Beyond Titanic, it could next challenge the current totals of Ne Zha 2 and Avatar: The Way of Water, although the film will need to maintain its momentum for several more weeks to continue climbing the all-time chart.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day marks a new chapter for Peter Parker following the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home. The official synopsis describes Peter as fighting crime full-time in a world that no longer remembers him while facing a new threat that could change his life once again.

Sony lists Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, Jacob Batalon, Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo among the film’s cast. The movie is produced by Kevin Feige, Amy Pascal, Avi Arad, and Rachel O’Connor.

The film’s success is particularly notable because it has maintained its box office strength beyond its opening weekend. It remained No. 1 at the North American box office for its fourth consecutive weekend, adding another $39 million despite competition from new releases.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day is now approaching one of the most difficult box office achievements imaginable: removing Titanic from the all-time global top five. If its current pace continues, Spider-Man could soon join an elite group dominated by James Cameron blockbusters and the biggest franchise events in movie history.
