Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially joined the biggest box office successes in movie history, becoming the second highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office. The Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures superhero movie has surpassed Avengers: Endgame’s North American record, proving that audiences still have strong demand for major theatrical experiences.

Starring Tom Holland as Peter Parker, the blockbuster has earned $858.4 million domestically, narrowly moving ahead of Avengers: Endgame, which previously held the No. 2 position with $858.3 million. The only movie still ahead on the all-time domestic chart is Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which remains at the top with $936.6 million.

The achievement continues a remarkable theatrical run for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which has broken multiple records since arriving in cinemas.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man Movie Breaks More Box Office Records

Spider-Man: Brand New Day reached $800 million domestically faster than any movie before it, achieving the milestone in just 19 days.

The film previously surpassed Spider-Man: No Way Home to become the third highest-grossing domestic movie of all time before climbing past Avengers: Endgame. It has also become Sony Pictures’ biggest domestic release ever, adding another milestone to the studio’s history.

The superhero sequel has also dominated worldwide box office rankings. The movie has earned approximately $2.22 billion globally, placing it among the top six highest-grossing films worldwide. It has already passed Star Wars: The Force Awakens globally and is approaching Titanic’s worldwide total of $2.26 billion.

Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, Spider-Man: Brand New Day features Tom Holland alongside Zendaya, Sadie Sink and Jon Bernthal. The movie opened in theaters on July 31 and quickly became one of the biggest releases of the year.

The film set a new domestic opening weekend record with $360 million, surpassing Avengers: Endgame. It later achieved the highest-grossing first week in domestic box office history and became the second-fastest movie ever to reach $1 billion globally, following Avengers: Endgame.

The success arrives during ongoing conversations about superhero fatigue after several comic book films struggled at the box office. However, Sony Pictures chairman Tom Rothman believes audiences are still interested in superhero stories when they deliver a major cinematic experience.

Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Rothman explained that quality remains the deciding factor for moviegoers.

“The theatrical audience demands greatness,”

Rothman said.

“If it’s only OK, they can stay home and see ‘only OK’ all day long on television. If we’re going to ask them make a trip out of it, it’s got to be great.”

The record-breaking performance of Spider-Man: Brand New Day has also helped strengthen the overall 2026 box office. According to Rentrak data cited by The Hollywood Reporter, the domestic box office crossed $7 billion by late August, marking a significant improvement compared with the previous year.

The film’s success has reinforced Spider-Man’s position as one of the most commercially powerful franchises in modern cinema. With its massive domestic and global earnings, Spider-Man: Brand New Day continues to reshape box office records and strengthen Marvel’s theatrical presence.
