Prime Video has cast Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya as Violet Sorrengail and Xaden Riorson in its upcoming television adaptation of Fourth Wing, the bestselling fantasy novel by Rebecca Yarros. Announced on October 21, 2026, the casting brings two central characters from the popular romantasy series to the screen for a project backed by Amazon MGM Studios.
McGregor will portray Violet, an intelligent young woman pushed by her mother to enter the dangerous Basgiath War College. Sakraya will play Xaden, an enigmatic and ruthless figure whose role is central to the story. The series follows candidates competing to join Navarre’s elite dragon riders, with survival far from guaranteed.
Yarros welcomed the casting announcement, saying, “It will be incredibly exciting to see these talented actors, Esther and Emilio, bring our beloved characters to life on screen.” The author also serves as an executive producer on the adaptation.
MEREDITH AVERILL LEADS THE FOURTH WING ADAPTATION
Meredith Averill, known for The Haunting of Hill House and Locke & Key, is adapting the novels for television and will serve as showrunner and executive producer. Lisa Joy, co-founder of Kilter Films and an executive producer on the series, is set to direct the pilot.
The production brings together Kilter Films, Michael B. Jordan’s Outlier Society, and Premeditated Productions. Jordan and Elizabeth Raposo will executive produce through Outlier Society, while Jonathan Nolan, Joy, and Athena Wickham will produce through Kilter Films. Yarros will also serve as an executive producer.
In the official Prime Video casting announcement, Joy praised the two leads, saying,
“Esther McGregor and Emilio Sakraya are brilliant, magnetic actors.”
She added that the team was excited for audiences to see their performances.
The Fourth Wing television adaptation will stream exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide. However, the casting announcement did not confirm a premiere date.
The story centers on Violet’s attempt to survive Basgiath War College, where candidates face dangerous trials to become dragon riders for Navarre. Her complicated relationship with Xaden adds a romantic dimension to the fantasy drama, combining high-stakes training, political tensions, and a world filled with dragons.
