Spider-Man: Brand New Day opened with a massive $168 million across North American theaters on its first day, setting a new record for the biggest single-day domestic box office haul in history. The achievement marks another major victory for Marvel and Sony.

The record-breaking debut is even more impressive because it surpassed a box office milestone that had remained unbeaten for seven years. With huge audience demand, strong early reviews, and packed theaters across the country, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has already established itself as one of the biggest movie events of the year.

A Record-Breaking Opening Day Joins Cinema’s Most Exclusive Blockbuster Club

Avengers: Endgame had held the opening day box office record since 2019 with $157.4 million. That record has now been broken by Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which earned $168 million on its first day in North America, according to Deadline.

A major part of that success came from Thursday preview screenings. The film earned $72 million from previews alone, breaking the previous record of $60 million set by Avengers: Endgame.

The record-breaking debut also places Brand New Day in an exclusive group of blockbuster films. It is only the sixth movie ever to earn more than $100 million in a single day, joining titles such as Avengers: Endgame, Spider-Man: No Way Home, Star Wars: The Force Awakens, Avengers: Infinity War, and Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Opening Weekend Projections Could Challenge Historic Domestic and Worldwide Records

The film’s massive opening day has also put its opening weekend on track for another major record. Sony expects Spider-Man: Brand New Day to earn around $325 million domestically during its first three days, while some industry analysts believe it could reach as much as $358 million.

If those projections hold, the movie could become one of the biggest opening weekends ever at the North American box office. It may even challenge the long-standing opening weekend record set by Avengers: Endgame, which earned $357.1 million in 2019.

The film is also performing strongly around the world. Current estimates suggest a global opening weekend between $875 million and $925 million, making it one of the biggest worldwide launches in recent years.
