Adult Swim recently unveiled an exciting preview for its highly anticipated anime adaptation of the beloved series, Rick and Morty.
The sneak peek, featured on Adult Swim’s official YouTube channel, showcases an intense battle between Tammy Guterman, a memorable villain from the original show, and Beth’s space-surfing counterpart.
Fans also catch glimpses of Rick, Morty, and Summer in action. This clip marks the first official footage released since last year’s teaser, which introduced Rick’s anime counterpart.
The anime adaptation of Rick and Morty is helmed by Takashi Sano, known for his work on acclaimed anime like Lupin III and Tower of God, and produced at Studio Telecom Animation Film.
Sano aims to infuse the series with a unique Japanese twist while staying true to the essence of the original show. While specific plot details remain under wraps, the inclusion of characters like Space Beth and Tammy suggests that the anime will draw from both earlier and later seasons of Rick and Morty.
Notably, this isn’t Sano’s first foray into the Rick and Morty universe. He previously directed two shorts—”Summer Meets God” and “Rick and Morty vs. Genocider”—which were met with critical acclaim.
Joining Sano in the production are several prominent industry figures, including Arisa Matsuzawa as art director, Yu Kiyozono overseeing animation production, and Makiko Kojima serving as color designer.
Tetsuya Takahashi is composing the music for the series, adding to the anticipation surrounding this project.
Meanwhile, fans eagerly anticipate the eighth season of the original Rick and Morty series, which is currently in development. Following Adult Swim’s renewal of the series for 70 episodes, viewers can expect roughly 10 episodes per season.
Although Season 7 recently concluded, Adult Swim aims to release Season 8 in 2025, with voice actor Sarah Chalke confirming that scripts are ready and awaiting production schedules.
As for Rick and Morty: The Anime, Adult Swim has slated its premiere for 2024 on both Adult Swim and Max. While an exact release date has yet to be announced, anticipation is high for this innovative take on the beloved franchise.
With its blend of familiar characters and fresh storytelling, Rick and Morty fans have much to look forward to in the coming year.
