Apple TV Plus has officially revived Season 2 of Silo. We’ll reveal all the juicy information about what’s to come, including a possible release date and whether or not beloved actors will return. So, despite the fact that the first season was still on the air, Apple officially renewed the enthralling sci-fi show for a second season. Thanks to the very positive feedback from the crowd.
Silo, set within a massive underground bunker, dives into the lives of hundreds of thousands of residents who are severely prohibited from coming out into the external world. Rebecca Ferguson impresses as Juliette, an engineer who delves into the mystery of those who try to escape the silo as well as the control over the people who live there.
After this explosive Silo Season 1 finale, there are still so many questions left unanswered that I believe will be explored in Silo Season 2.
Silo Season 2 Release Date
Apple TV renewed Silo Season 2 even before the first season ended. One question that we know the answer to is that season 2 is coming, and they’re already filming it. This is promising since even though there’s a lot of effects work in post-production that goes into a project like this, the fact that they’re already filming means that we shouldn’t have to wait as long as we do on some other big show.
Executive producers for the second season are set to include writer Hugh Howey, show developer Graham Yost, director Morten Tyldum and actress Rebecca Ferguson. Season 2 of the show is also on the way, and it may arrive sooner than expected.
At the Canneseries festival in the month of April 2023, star Rebecca Ferguson, who acts as Juliette in Silo, confirmed that production on the second season has already begun.
Also, as shown with Ted Lasso, which secured a second-season renewal shortly after its premiere and became available on the streaming service within a year, Apple TV Plus has an excellent track record of reviving shows in advance.
Given this history, it is possible that Silo Season 2 may premiere on Apple TV Plus in spring 2024. The present WGA Writers Strike is not expected to cause significant delays because the new season began filming before the strike began
. Presumably, the show’s scripting process was practically complete at the time. Based on this data, we can predict that Silo Season 2 will premiere between April and July of 2024.
Silo Season 2 Cast
Silo has a solid track record for killing characters, so only people who have read the novels may have an idea of who could survive. Flashbacks are also used in the series. Therefore, even people who have died can come back in flashback scenes.
One thing is sure: Rebecca Ferguson will return as Juliette, the show’s central character, in Silo Season 2. Alongside Ferguson, it is fair to speculate that the remaining members of the primary cast are to return for Season 2.
This means that Tim Robbins will play Bernard, Common will play Robert Sims, Chinaza Uche will play Paul, Avi Nash will play Lukas, and Harriet Walter will play Martha.
Rashida Jones and David Oyelowo remain among the most important cast members. Given their skills, it wouldn’t be unusual if the Silo developers found a way to bring them in the second season.
Silo Season 2 Story
The first season of Silo came to an end with a finale that found the perfect balance between answering questions and leaving us wanting more. Juliette did some things that no one in living memory has done before her.
She refused to clean, and because her suit was sealed correctly, thanks to Walker getting supplied to change out the heat tape, she not only survived the cleaning but walked over the hill to leave her silo behind.
By far, the biggest question on everyone’s minds is what will Jules find now that she’s walked away from the silo? Of course, those rings and center towers are exactly the same as what she just walked away from, indicating that there are more silos nearby. She does have a limited air supply in that small backpack she’s wearing. This, if that is truly the only air she has, narrows down her options.
Why Don’t You See Holston And Alison’s Body?
One question I’ve seen a lot after the finale, and one that I couldn’t answer without further investigation, was, “Why you don’t see Holston and Alison’s body when the camera zooms out?”
The question itself was confounding because I thought the show did a good enough job of revealing that they were dead, so much so that when I watched the finale, I was just looking at all those other circles dotting the landscape. But because so many people brought this up, I went back and looked and also had a hard time seeing the bodies.
Series author and creator Hugh Howie did a Reddit AMA after the finale, where he addressed this; saying that if the bodies weren’t there, then it must have been the CGI people missing a critical detail.
User, mrnotoriousman responded to that with an extreme close-up to show that the bodies are, in fact, there. What jumped out about that was the scale of things, and how hard it was to locate Jules because of how small she is.
Going back to the wide shot, I can now see that there are some white pixels for all three characters, which is enough for me to consider this an answered question. Holston and Allison’s bodies are still right where they died, just as the people inside see them on the screen.
How Many Silos Are There?
Another question I’ve seen a lot is how many silos are there? Based on the closing shot, there are at least dozens that line up with the most popular idea from people who haven’t read the books. This says that the number 18 on Bernard’s FOB and on the hard drive indicate that our silo is number 18.
I think the more interesting questions here are whether there are people in all of them. And if there are, are they all in the same program or whatever you want to call it? Are they all being controlled in the same way, and whether or not that’s true, what does that mean? Why was this set up in the first place?
Why Does The Outside World Look Like That?
That leads to the next obvious question of why does the outside world look like that? The people inside the silo grew up thinking that they were the only people left alive from the before times
. Knowing that there are other silos makes that first part seem unlikely. So then, do we need to question whether or not they’re on Earth?
I guess that depends on what you think about this destroyed cityscape that you see in the. It does resemble what you see here on Earth, but I suppose you could make the argument that if we went to other planets, we’d probably make the same kinds of buildings.
But I guess at the end of the day, that’s a question more about why are they inside the silo? Who put them there? More than it’s about what’s going on with Jules at the end of the season. The person who might know more about this is Bernard, and that leads to the next question.
What’s Behind The Door That Bernard Unlocked?
What’s behind the door that Bernard unlocked with the FOB slash switchblade key with the 18 on it? The fact that that lights up hints at it being a signal which has to come from somewhere.
Because the lights weren’t on inside the room when he opened the door, it didn’t look like there was someone inside calling him.
Because the show has blurred the lines and given judicial a much larger role, while adding the surveillance room in the janitor’s closet, I’m not exactly sure what’s going on in the Server room itself. It’ll be interesting to find out what he does next.
One thing I’ve seen repeated after the finale is that he rushed over there to open the doors and disabled the display in Jules’s helmet. I guess some viewers came to the conclusion that he disabled the augmented reality, the green background that she was seeing.
That wasn’t how I thought the scene was supposed to read. To me, it was just a reveal that Bernard knows more than everyone else, which is backed up by Sims not knowing what he meant when he said she knows.
And the way they cut the scene after he opened the door is just a way to make us wonder what he’ll do now that the cleaning didn’t go as planned.
Ultimately, I think that the next season will focus on the dueling philosophies between Bernard and Juliette, as their conflict will represent either following the path of ignorance or pulling the wool from your eyes to see the truth of the world.
