Shy is an anime adaptation of a Japanese superhero manga with the same title, written by Bukimi Miki. Directed by Masaomi Andō and written by Yasuhiro Nakanishi, the series revolves around the superheroes who appear on Earth when it is on the verge of witnessing the Third World War.
Teru Momijiyama is a 14-year-old girl with a heroic name, ‘Shy,’ according to her nature. The series has been written and composed by Yasuhiro Nakanishi. The manga has basic similarities with My Hero Academia by Kohei Horikoshi.
However, My Hero Academia has more heroes than Shy, and Stigma is a more mysterious and darker villain. Shy has real human drama that will not get published in Weekly Shōnen Jump.
Shy is an underrated story where the hero and the civilians live together with their personal inabilities and insecurities. According to a viewer, Marvel and DC have yet to touch that concept.
Shy Preview & Spoilers
Superheroes that appeared on Earth just before the Third World War belong to various countries throughout the world. Gifted with powers, the superheroes stay in and protect the citizens of the countries they belong to and finally bring peace to the world.
Shy, the timid young girl, represents Japan. She is blessed with super strength. However, it seems like she does not need an external enemy because her crippling shyness, associated with social phobia, is enough to challenge her in every situation.
Thus, Shy must battle her inner shortcomings before facing the villains. However, she has all the other features of a hero. We will witness her journey from an extremely shy girl to a confident one in upcoming episodes.
Meanwhile, the first episode was released this week. It introduces us to Shy, who ends a World War after getting assisted by other heroes. Shy arrives at an amusement park after getting invited to the hero’s show. A roller coaster accident occurs, and she saves a girl named Iko Koishikawa but gets blamed for injuring her. It is how Shy loses her powers.
However, in the first episode, Shy’s Russian hero friend, Spirit, motivates her. Thus, she regains her powers and takes more people out of the burning building. Later, Iko Koishikawa, who wants to go to a school closer to her house after the accident, joins Shy’s school and becomes her friend.
Meanwhile, Shy learns that the world is still in danger. Thus, she goes to Space with Spirit to meet the supervisor, Unilord, to save the world from upcoming dangers.
According to the manga, the other heroes alongside Shy (Japan) and Spirit (Russia) are Century (the US), Stardust (the UK), Mian Long (China), Doctor Schwartz (Germany), and Lady Black (Switzerland).
Unilord is the leader of all heroes around the globe. The soft-spoken celestial emperor lives at the Heroes’ Hideout and administers all heroes on the Earth. She has a strong authority, though she is not a hero.
According to the manga, further episodes might reveal a villainous organization, Amarariruku, which will threaten the world’s peace after the Third World War, and Shy must defeat it. Amarariruku is led by an unnamed leader who gets addressed as ‘Stigma’ by the heroes.
