She-Hulk Episode 7 is full of hidden details and a lot of callbacks to the comics that we’re gonna be recapping in this article. After the Daredevil tease in Episode 5, we were hit with an inconvenient Wedding episode that made me want to become the Joker. All in all She-Hulk is just another Marvel show teasing a devil and we’re gonna put that to the side and take this for what it is.
Now the She-Hulk Attorney At Law Episode 7 is called the retreat and it centers on Jen getting in touch with her inner She-Hulk at Blonsky’s meditation clinic. However, it could also be used with Josh as well to show how he retreats away from She-Hulk after getting her goods…like her body fluid…sorry like her DNA potentially.
Now I’ve been saying this every week, once again I thought that “this going to be the episode where Daredevil shows up”, but no, my hopes were killed once again. With that out the way now let’s get into She-Hulk episode 7.
She-Hulk Episode 7 Recap
We start off She-Hulk Episode 7 with a birds-ey view of Jen’s bathroom and similar to Ms. Marvel we get the texts presented in an animated form. She’s talking to Josh from last week and we get a split-second shot of the conversation in which he says talks about how hot her body is. Just kidding, just kidding he is constantly asking her where her address is and hinting towards finding out where she lives.
He’s revealed to be part of the Intelligencia which we theorized back at the wedding. He gets it and shows up to pick her up sitting in the car like it’s a classic date movie. Got Top Gun Maverick vibes from this and she’s clearly fallen for him, Jen seems really happy.
At work, she talks about getting fries with him and the pair ate them at the wedding last week. This is something Jen has constantly done with dates and she also got fries to go in She-Hulk episode 4 after the date. Surely fries are like the side course I dunno, get a burger or something but either way they constantly keep dating but Jen teases him and doesn’t let him come into the house to penetrate her with his needle.
Eventually, she does though and she stays in the Jen form not having to revert to She-Hulk. This was a big part of the comics too with her feeling like she couldn’t be with men as how she truly was. Man does the smash and dash and ghosts her like Ant-man and the wasp. At the end of the episode, we learn the truth of what really happened and watch as he copies her phone.
Just in the same way we had triple emojis earlier when she hulk was at work we get them here too. It’s clearly suggesting that he took her blood and if our thoughts about the leader being behind this are true then I think Josh is one of his minions that has potentially already taken her blood or he’s just doing recon to show when she’s most vulnerable. I think stabbing her might make her transform into she hulk so he may not have done it but let me know your thoughts below.
Even getting nominated for the female lawyer of the year doesn’t help. Intelligencia is once more a conversation topic and Nikki also brings up a wellness retreat foreshadowing what’s to come. Much like the deleted Yoga scene from the Incredible Hulk, we watch as Jen tries to take her mind off not getting a reply.
Meeting Emil Blonsky Once Again
She does however get a call from Blonsky’s parole officer Chuck Donelan. Blonsky’s inhibitor has had a malfunction and Chuck wants to go in with some backup in the form of She-Hulk. She travels out in the wilderness and I got a lot of flashes back to the opening of the series with her and bruce traveling down the road. Everything seems like it’s ok with Blonsky saying he jumped it on an electric fence for his chicken silk feather.
Now at this point, we meet two new characters in Man-Bull and El Aguila. Jen’s car is destroyed by them and Tim Roth just constantly cracked me up with his newfound positive outlook. Though he wasn’t announced in the thunderbolts announcement I am hoping that they held him back because they wanted to keep it as a surprise due to the show still airing. Would love to see him pop up in that film and work for the rest of his parole. I think Abomination is too good of a character to leave here so hopefully, Val pops up in a post-credits tease.
Jen says she needs to get some work done but she’s clearly just trying to get reception and wi-fi in the hopes that Josh texts her. She wanders the retreat to the song peppers band onions by Tierra Whack and eventually stumbles across a therapy session. This is the Abomaste which is of course a play on namaste the calming phrase that Blonsky said earlier in the season. It means greetings to you and we can see it’s a self-help center almost elevating him like a cult-like figure though the guy seems too chill to be worshipped….even with his seven wives.
Jen Gets A Therapy
They have several objects here that help to keep people calm and even what I think is a swear jar to keep this show PG. Reminded me a lot of the group therapy session from Weck it Ralph with lots of characters all giving their truth about how it feels to be a villain that wants to change.
Jen doesn’t want to get involved but we overhear the issues that they go through and decide to open up. El Agula hates that he’s constantly seen as a matador when really he wants to be noticed for who he truly is. Lastly, they are joined by none other than the Wrecking Crew Leader Wrecker. Jen lashes out on him but we learn that he’s a changed man. This could explain why Josh wasn’t with the original group and he may have not replaced Wrecker on the team.
He talks about his magic crowbar and in case you don’t know in the comics the group all held onto one as it was struck with lighting. This gave them magical abilities whereas here they stole them off an Asgardian construction worker. He’s going Deep on himself and is a changed man who’s taking accountability.
Jen Tells Them Aout Josh
Jen tells the group about Josh and we discover that she’s now playing directly into letting Josh take the upper hand by texting. Either way, this insecurity has made her think that she’s basically constantly losing out to She-Hulk as Jen. Nice little detail they have here that only me and Quentin Tarantino noticed is that she doesn’t have shoes on. She would of course destroy her shoes transforming so nice they kept this in.
The whole situation with Josh has made her feel even more worthless. However the group lift her up and you know what, for a stone-faced as I’ve been throughout She-Hulk, my man Saracen had me laughing out loud with this bit. Jen realizes that maybe Josh isn’t for her but that there are men who will genuinely like her and it’s a wonderful wonderful scene that actually explores both sides of the character.
I know I’ve been constantly ragging on this show for how hollow it feels but ey this moment was really well put together I think and in the end, it inspires porcupine to finally remove his mask. Smells like crap though cos the guy hasn’t washed but ey you seem like a nice guy.
Jen accepts Josh isn’t worth her time and deletes his number in the end. As the car is towed away we can also catch the name Slott on it and this is a reference to Dan Slott who created the She-Hulk comic book run that the series is based on. I think the driver might even have this on his name badge but it’s a bit too difficult to fully make out though it does begin with a d. The gang…sorry group says their goodbyes and she rides home to a bit of Dua Lipa. However, the episode isn’t over and we see the other side of the Josh thing with us seeing what really happened.
The Intelligencia
Now the Intelligencia are probably gonna tie into further things down the line and I suspect that they’re gonna be popping up in Captain America New World Order. The leader has been confirmed as popping up in that movie and the idea of a new world order of course ties in with the Illuminati. This is the idea that I feel is also behind the Intelligencia. This supergroup of super smart villains all pooled their resources and started to control events behind the scene.
It seems like Marvel is doing a comment on the internet and message boards being used to indoctrinate young men and I think that the Leader might become a figurehead for this. I doubt that the Intelligencia are gonna be completely introduced and defeated in the time we have left in the season so I can see it more being a lead-in. This will likely set up events for the future and it is a bit weird that they’re going after She-Hulk. Guessing it’s just commenting on men hating women with powers and this will then spiral off into other things. Marvel seems to be trying to handle way more social issues than before so it’s a bold move cotton lets see if it plays off for them.
Now the members we know are coming into the MCU are Modok and The Leader and we know they’re coming soon. Modok will be in Ant-man and the Wasp Quantumania and I’m guessing we will get a tease soon. There’s also Todd who judging by rumors on the show will be popping up again further down the line, potentially next week. We’ve constantly talked about him for ages now and the very fact that they have a vibranium needle makes me think that he had a hand in this.
I’ve played the voice comparisons a tonne of times so go watch our older breakdowns if you wanna hear it but I think he and the wrecking crew member are one of the same. The needle was of course bent and then on the date he ended up asking about the Vibranium one. This will be able to draw out more hulk blood and potentially go directly to the leader. We saw in the Incredible hulk how hulks blood ended up making him go through a metamorphosis and I think that he wants to create his own legion of Hulk through Jens DNA.
This idea was set up all the way back in episode 1 and it’s nice that they have this through the thread from there.
Thoughts On She-Hulk Attorney At Law Episode 7
Anyway, after the josh reveal we cut to the credits and as always get some court drawings that sum up the episode. These include My man El Aguila matador in college as a joke and also Jen meditating in the weat box. Lastly, we have porcupine taking his costume to the dry cleaners whilst we can clearly see that it stinks. Anyway, that ends the episode and as much as I’ve been s**ting on the show I really enjoyed this episode.
Was nice catching up with Abomination but also getting the focus solely on Jen rather than her getting half the episode divided with characters like Mr. Immortal and some costume stuff. This really ticked all the boxes for me with it having good jokes, some nice side characters that complimented the plot, and also Jen actually going on an arc where she learns and grows. My problem in the past has been that I’ve felt something is missing from the show and in comparison to the comics, it’s been very surface level.
I felt like it was a dumbed-down version of the source material but here they really hammer home the cost of being she hulk on Jen rather than everything just falling into her lap. I don’t think it was a complete home run and whether it saves the series for me or not is unlikely but this is an episode that sets out to do a job and I think it pulls it all together.
I just want Cameos but I really settle if they’re telling a good story. I think that was the case here and though I had another friend text me immediately after and say the episode sucked, I thought it was all right mate, I thought it was ok. Might even say good you know. Maybe I’ve learned to grow myself and you know what, I’ve deleted my Incelligencia account. Either way that’s my thoughts let me know yours below and hopefully I see you on the next one.
