Returning for its tenth season of Season 15, Shark Tank is a reality show where budding entrepreneurs dangle their creative hook in front of a panel of eager investors.
The sharks are coming back this Friday, January 12th, with their teeth bared and their walls open, ready to devour the most promising business ideas they can discover. Imagine it as a culinary competition where the prize is a million-dollar investment and the opportunity to see your creation swim with the big fish instead of Michelin stars.
Like most shows, the ABC business show has been on sabbatical lately and was taken off the air for the holidays. ‘Shark Tank’s fifteenth season debuted on September 29, 2023, and has thus aired ten episodes. On several Fridays in the past, ABC has occasionally skipped airing an episode.
Due to NFL games, the show took a two-week hiatus before this. The show’s primetime hour has been 8 p.m. ET over the years, however, it must miss its airing if other very popular shows are in session.
Recap
Heather Kelly, the creator of Heather’s Choice, developed a portable food line designed to be taken on excursions. The meals come in a bag and can be packed or stored on a shelf. Simply pour boiling water into the bag, stir, and savour. Made with just the finest ingredients, all of the meals are free of gluten.
Her best-selling products include Morning Glory Oatmeal and Grass-Fed Bison Chili. She not only makes the meals but also packs them with eight different types of macaroons known as Packaroons.
In total, Heather’s Choice provides cookies, eight dinners, and six breakfasts. The sharks all gush about the cuisine when it’s finally time to taste it. The Packaroons are available for $2.50 at retail. Moreover, the dinners range in price from $12.50 to $15.95, and the breakfasts are priced at $8.95.
Visitor shark Heather is asked by Candace Nelson if she is a cook. Heather tells of leaving Alaska for college and getting recruited by Western Washington University to be a rower. There, she supported her squad as they won three national titles. However, she found that regular exercise took her to a healthier diet.
But it was during a thirty-day hiking and rowing trip through the Grand Canyon that Heather got the inspiration for her book, Heather’s Choice. She found herself dehydrating a lot of food to take on the trip to have it ready for meals.
At that point, the notion of making comparable meals in a company was born. According to Kevin O’Leary, the market is quite specialized. He’s interested in how she discovers her clients and how much money she makes from each one. She starts by outlining her 75% margin on everything she sells.
She also sells on Amazon and Shopify. REI carries the brand as well. She sold $1 million in 2022, but she is still not profitable. Kevin inquires as to how this is feasible, and Heather responds that it is because it is made in Alaska.
Then Mr. Wonderful queries her about why she wouldn’t simply scale and go to a co-packer. She claims that although she tried, the food’s quality suffered.
She ultimately decided to shift processing to the lower 48 as a result. Her margins will then increase to almost 80% as a result. In addition, Heather needs assistance growing her Packaroon company. especially because she thinks she’ll be able to lower the price soon.
The sharks are not pleased to learn that she owes $1 million in debt. Kevin claims he’s out because he’s not the right investor. Although Candace Nelson adores the product, she is unable to invest due to too many problems. She is out as a result of this.
