Believe it or not, Wonder Man was initially a villainous character. However, the character was put on hold by Stan Lee when DC claimed that there were similarities to their superhero Wonder Woman, which was just a name issue. However, given the claims, Marvel decided to discontinue the character. DC later created Power Girl while, in turn, Marvel already had Power Man, and later Marvel revived him in the ’70s as a hero, and he soon had a steady presence in the Marvel Universe. Wonder Man, aka Simon Williams, has been portrayed as the son of an industrialist who ran a successful munitions factory called Williams Innovations. There is a Marvel twist as Simon’s industry has been a competitor to Stark Industries. While Simon takes over the family business, he is later sentenced to prison for embezzlement when trying to save it from going into ruins. This Marvel superhero develops a brotherly bond with Vision, but it does go through a tumultuous process.
This might be an interesting fact for fans, but director James Gunn initially planned to introduce Simon Williams into the MCU Cinematic Universe in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. Moreover, actor Nathan Fillion was repeatedly cast as Williams. However, Fillion’s scenes did not make it through, as the scenes were eventually cut from the final film.
