The DLC narrative mode for Resident Evil Village: Gold Edition is called Shadows of Rose. It was announced at Capcom’s E3 presentation in June 2022, and on October 28, 2022, it became a part of the Gold Edition and the remainder of the Winters Expansion. A removed addendum to the Village narrative mode, in which the player was supposed to momentarily assume the character of Rose, served as the inspiration for the game mode.
Similar to the original game, the storyline for Shadows of Rose was produced by Capcom and English-speaking authors in collaboration; writer Haris Orkin contributed lines in his tongue. This episode wraps off the Winters saga and is produced by Masachika Kawata and helmed by Kento Kinoshita. This narrative mode should take four hours to complete, according to Capcom.
Shadows Of Rose Ending Explained
Rose’s only goal was to locate the Purifying Crystal that K, a member of Chris Redfield’s team, had assured her would be stored in the Megamycete sample’s memory. Rose overcame many obstacles and riddles, exploring the Castle and leaving the House before arriving at the Deep Stratum of the nightmarish Megamycete memory realm. After the Shadows of Rose DLC, we discover a few things. The figure known as ‘Michael’ who regularly sent Rose advice and assistance in the form of golden letters at the beginning of the DLC, was Ethan Winters all along.
Mother Miranda, who was present in the Megamycete sample, served as bait for the Purifying Crystal. Miranda pretended to be K and cast an illusion into the actual world. Miranda devised a plan to entice Rose into using the Purifying Crystal to voluntarily give up her abilities by tricking her into gaining access to the Megamycete’s memories. Rose transformed into Miranda’s “ideal vessel” for Eva by utilizing the Purifying Crystal to cleanse herself of the mold. Rose had to shatter the Purifying Crystal and accept her abilities to leave the nightmare world Miranda crafted and attempt to save the “memory” version of her father.
Rose can say farewell to her father, Ethan Winters, after overcoming Miranda. Around them, the Megamycete memory universe disintegrates. Rose discovers she is still holding her father’s ring when she emerges from Miranda’s nightmare world and finds herself in the lab.
Does the ending of Shadows of Rose include Resident Evil 9 spoilers?
Although the conclusion of the Shadows of Rose DLC explains some background from the main plot, it does not provide us with any further information about what is in Resident Evil 9. The identical final cinematic from Resident Evil 8 Village plays at the very end of Shadows of Rose. Rose takes a bus to her father’s burial place. Before one of Chris Redfield’s men interrupts her to ask her to join an essential operation, she bids Ethan a happy birthday. The final cutscene is identical to the one from the main game. We can make more sense of the subtext, though, given the background that the Shadows of Rose DLC offers.
First, Rose retrieved Ethan’s ring from the Megamycete’s memory. Since Rose first met Ethan in the Megamycete’s memory realm, she probably has been going to his grave on his birthday every year. Rose is particularly offended when the special agent refers to her as “Eveline” because she had encountered Eveline in the Megamycete’s memories. Rose’s threat to the special agent, “I can show you things even Chris doesn’t know I can do,” is not hollow. Rose appears to have never told anybody about what occurred inside the Megamycete’s memories. This implies that no one knows what Rose is truly capable of, not even Chris Redfield.
After the Shadows of Rose DLC events of the Shadows of Rose DLC, Rose experienced a change of heart, as evidenced by her decision to go with the special agent. She discusses her reluctance to become a member of Chris Redfield’s “Hound Wolf Squad” with K in the prologue of Shadows of Rose. Rose could have joined the Hound Wolf Squad if Chris had been so comfortable calling on her.
Finally, Rose responds, “I know,” to the special agent’s comment that she has many traits with her father, Ethan Winters. After the events in Shadows of Rose, this has a completely different meaning. Even though it was just in the Megamycete’s memory realm, we now know that Rose had encountered her father.
