Former BIGBANG member Seungri is reportedly preparing to welcome his first child in January 2027.
The news attracted widespread attention after Korean media reported that the singer and his non-celebrity partner were expecting a baby boy.
Seungri subsequently confirmed that he is legally married and that his wife is pregnant, while denying speculation that the couple married because of the pregnancy.
The initial report was published on October 27, 2026, citing information from Maeil Kyungje.
According to the report, Seungri’s wife, who is in her 20s, is expected to give birth to their son in January next year.
The couple had reportedly prepared a home in Seoul’s Gangnam district.
Following the initial reports, Seungri spoke with Ilgan Sports on October 28 to clarify the situation surrounding his marriage.
He explained that the relationship and pregnancy were private matters and disputed claims suggesting that the couple had married in response to the pregnancy.
The news has brought renewed attention to the former singer, who stepped away from the entertainment industry in 2019.
His personal life has remained a subject of public discussion since his departure from BIGBANG and the controversies that followed.
Seungri Confirms Marriage and Addresses Pregnancy Reports
After the initial news suggested that Seungri and his partner were preparing to marry, the former singer clarified that they were already legally married.
Speaking to Ilgan Sports, Seungri stated,
“Since it is a private matter, I feel burdened to discuss details.
My wife and I are, of course, legally married, and the claims that we married due to pregnancy is false.”
He also addressed questions about a possible wedding ceremony, explaining,
“At present, I am not considering a wedding ceremony.”
His comments clarified the distinction between the couple’s legal marital status and reports suggesting that a formal ceremony would take place after the baby’s birth.
The couple is reportedly focusing on preparing for the arrival of their child.
The initial report had stated that the couple were planning to hold their wedding after the birth.
However, Seungri’s subsequent comments indicated that they were already legally married and were not currently considering a separate ceremony.
The pregnancy report emerged while Korean media were investigating a separate case involving allegations of aggravated assault against Seungri.
According to reports, he had referred to having a family to protect during the interview process.
The latest confirmation has therefore shifted the story from speculation about a possible marriage to Seungri’s own clarification of his marital status.

Seungri, whose real name is Lee Seung Hyun, debuted as a member of BIGBANG in 2006 under YG Entertainment.
The group became one of the most influential acts in K-pop, gaining international recognition through songs such as “Fantastic Baby,” “Bang Bang Bang” and “Haru Haru.”
However, Seungri’s career took a dramatic turn in 2019 following controversies connected to the Burning Sun scandal.
He left BIGBANG and announced his retirement from the entertainment industry that year.
He was subsequently convicted on nine charges, including arranging prostitution, habitual gambling and embezzlement.
South Korea’s Supreme Court upheld his sentence of one year and six months in prison in 2022. He was released in February 2023 after serving his sentence.
More recently, Seungri faced allegations involving an alleged assault at a restaurant in Seoul’s Gangnam district in August 2026.
His legal representative acknowledged that he had picked up a soju bottle during the incident but denied that he had struck or threatened the other individual with it.
The allegations remain a separate matter from the reports concerning his family.
With his marriage now confirmed and the expected birth reportedly scheduled for January 2027, Seungri has entered a new chapter in his personal life.
He has asked the public to respect his family’s privacy, noting that his wife is not a public figure.
