Former BIGBANG member Seungri has denied allegations of special assault following a reported incident at a restaurant in Seoul in August.

Through his legal representative, the singer acknowledged picking up a soju bottle during an argument but firmly rejected claims that he swung it at or struck another person.

On October 23, 2026, attorney Yoon Jae Bin of Surim Law Firm released an official statement outlining Seungri’s account of the incident.

The statement came after a man filed a criminal complaint alleging that Seungri and his companions had assaulted, threatened, and unlawfully confined him at a restaurant.

According to the legal representative, the disagreement occurred on August 8, when Seungri was dining with two acquaintances.

An unfamiliar man allegedly approached their table and asked to join them.

The situation reportedly escalated after repeated requests for the man to leave were unsuccessful.

The case remains under police investigation, and the allegations have not been established as facts.

Seungri’s legal team has said that he intends to cooperate with investigators to clarify what happened.

Seungri’s Legal Team Explains the Restaurant Incident

According to attorney Yoon, Seungri was having a meal with two acquaintances at a restaurant in Seoul when the complainant approached their table and asked to join them.

The attorney claimed that Seungri and his companions initially declined the request, but the man allegedly took an empty seat without permission.

The statement said that Seungri eventually poured the man a drink and shared his contact information in an attempt to resolve the situation.

However, the disagreement reportedly continued when the man allegedly refused repeated requests to leave.

Attorney Yoon acknowledged that Seungri picked up a soju bottle during the heated exchange.

However, he maintained that the incident involved an argument rather than a physical confrontation.

The lawyer stated,

“As the complainant continued to ignore requests to leave, voices were raised, and it is true that Seungri picked up a soju bottle.”

He further emphasized that “this was merely an emotional confrontation sparked by the complainant’s provocation, and there was no physical altercation.”

Seungri’s legal team also claimed that the parties left the restaurant on amicable terms and continued exchanging text messages afterward.

According to the statement, the complainant subsequently filed a criminal complaint several days later.

The attorney further alleged that the complainant’s side contacted Seungri to seek a settlement after filing the complaint.

These claims represent the legal team’s account and have not been independently established.

Police Investigation Continues as Seungri Pledges Cooperation

According to police, the complainant filed a report with Seoul’s Gangnam Police Station in August, accusing Seungri and his companions of assault, threats, and unlawful confinement at the restaurant.

The allegations have led to an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the encounter.

Police are expected to question Seungri as part of the process.

Through his representative, Seungri has maintained that he did not swing the bottle at anyone or strike anyone with it.

His legal team says he intends to cooperate with the investigation and present his account to the relevant authorities.

The lawyer stated,

“Seungri intends to cooperate fully with the investigation and establish the facts through the investigative authorities.”

The case has attracted renewed public attention because Seungri previously faced criminal proceedings following the Burning Sun scandal in 2019.

He left BIGBANG and announced his retirement from the entertainment industry that year.

He was later convicted on multiple charges and served a prison sentence before being released in February 2023.

However, his previous convictions are separate from the current complaint and do not determine the outcome of the new investigation.

For now, the central allegations remain disputed. Seungri’s legal representative has acknowledged that he picked up a bottle during the argument while denying that he used it to strike anyone.

Investigators will need to establish the circumstances of the incident before any conclusions can be reached.
