Secrets of the Dead, a PBS television program produced by WNET 13 New York, made its premiere in 2000. Usually, the program tracks a researcher or group of researchers as they investigate what modern science might reveal about some of the greatest mysteries in human history.
Most shows employ a combination of computer-generated graphics (CGI), dramatic reenactments, eyewitness accounts, and sources to tell their stories. The series originated as a 1999 Channel 4 original British program of the same name. The first two seasons in each country were identical, but then things started to differ. The US series includes certain shows that were part of earlier Channel 4 series (e.g., Secret History).
The original British programs were trimmed, rebranded, and eventually re-narrated by PBS using new American voice actors. According to PBS, scientists attempt to unravel well-known historical mysteries in this irregular British series. In earlier episodes, we’ve talked about the Titanic, D-Day, the Shroud of Turin, the Salem Witch Trials, Blackbeard’s lost ship, and the first English translations of the Bible.
The PBS series premiered on May 15, 2000, with four episodes spread across three days (the first program was a two-parter that covered the extreme weather events of 535–536). Despite the erratic schedule, new episodes continue to air.
We experienced the world of dinosaur collecting in the previous season, which is a contentious pastime with a sizable following. As “Big John”—the largest Triceratops fossil ever discovered—is assembled in Italy and put up for auction in France, I hear opinions on the fossil trade from paleontologists, private collectors, and others.
Plot Of The Show
In this gripping mystery documentary series, a variety of experts use state-of-the-art forensic techniques to provide fresh insights into long-standing mysteries, like whether the Andrea Doria disaster, the weather, or a potential geological calamity caused the Dark Ages.
In the show’s first season in 2000, American actor Roy Scheider narrated; from 2001 to 2011, Liev Schreiber, best known for Ray Donovan, did the same. For the entirety of the current season and since 2012, American actor Jay Olcutt Sanders has served as the narrator.
Secrets of the Dead is a PBS series that airs on US public television stations. It was created by the WNET Group. Not to mention, the show expresses gratitude to the viewers of its PBS channel for initially making Secrets of the Dead possible.
