Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire is gearing up for its theatrical release, promising to be one of the MonsterVerse’s grandest installments yet. While Godzilla and Kong won’t be duking it out for the entirety of the film, they’ll be teaming up to face formidable threats emerging from the Hollow Earth.
But is this colossal clash also one of the franchise’s finest moments? Rotten Tomatoes has just revealed its official score for the kaiju spectacle, providing insight into whether this epic showdown is worth experiencing on the big screen.
In ComicBook.com’s review of Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire, it’s highlighted that this entry is a departure from the tone set by the MonsterVerse’s inaugural film, 2014’s Godzilla.
The review notes, “Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire immediately diverges from 2014’s Godzilla, the cornerstone of Legendary’s MonsterVerse.
While Gareth Edwards’ kaiju epic built anticipation around Godzilla’s atomic breath, delaying its reveal to create a climactic moment, The New Empire wastes no time in showcasing this ability within minutes, dispatching another Titan in a burst of green goo reminiscent of Nickelodeon’s signature slime.
This early scene, preceding the title card, sets the tone, signaling that this film is distinct from its predecessor and understands its audience’s expectations.”
Godzilla x Kong’s Rotten Tomatoes Score
Although The New Empire fell short of achieving the coveted “certified fresh” status on Rotten Tomatoes, it also managed to avoid a “rotten” rating.
Currently, the film holds a respectable 62% approval rating based on 102 reviews at the time of this article’s publication. Rotten Tomatoes marked the occasion with a celebratory social media post acknowledging the film’s reception.

The future of the MonsterVerse remains uncertain. No new films or second seasons for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters have been officially confirmed.
However, if The New Empire proves successful, it could pave the way for additional kaiju projects to expand and enrich the universe.
